Rear lights conversion issue

Hi,

I bought a set of 2010 Led rear lights from eBay but I am having issues with swapping the units out. Basically they don't seem to fit. The sockets that the original lights use do not seem to be compatible with the new units. The spikes that go into the units on the new lights stick out much further than the originals. Am I missing something? Everything I had seen had suggested they were a straight swap the video up on youtube about changing them makes it look like mine are how they are meant to be so I am concerned there is something wrong with the units I have bought. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you need to drill new holes and install new grommets.
Do a search. There is info on the board.
