OH dear. Experts announced this week that Land Rover are the least reliable cars on the road. And that for avoiding breakdowns, Honda are best.
This is undoubtedly true. In the same way that a holiday in the Caribbean is fraught with the risk of robbery, sunburn and food poisoning. Whereas a holiday in Tenby is not.
Even so, I know which I'd prefer.

If there was serious competetion out there, they'd have to do something. Just for now, no other 4x4 delivers what a RR can. When you get a good one, it's great, but when you keep getting faults & no one sorts it out....well you know MW

I'd prefer to see a scoring for dealerships - cause come the end of the day all vehicles get problems, but it's whether the dealership sorts it out the 1st time.

I have now had issues with 4 local dealers (one now closed) so end up travelling further and further - not so bad if it is just an annual service but if you have problems it gets time consuming - basically lose a days work every visit

I really feel for you Muddy and it makes me angry that Landrover treat their customers so badly. The internet is a powerful medium and especially websites like Martins. I just did a quick search and there are sites out their like "landrovercomplaints dot com" but nothing special going on there.

I know anyone having a go at LR online would have to cover themselves legally but I am sure provided all the complaints are legit fact based accounts of shoddy treatment then it would be ok.

We have a Toyota Landcruiser that is probably the worst in the world for reliability, at least once a month it needs major work. The FFRR though, needs normal maintenance, I did have to replace the A/C (probably due to sitting still in Africa for 2 years) and there are some nigglies, probably caused by the sitting still (they are random faults that seem to be connector corrosion related, so finally brought back electrical contact cleaner from this weeks trip).

I also had a Honda fail on me several times for a factory recall that was not done and thanks to the Dutch AA I got it done after being left standing for the 4th time.

In other words, yes statistically the LRs don't do well, on top of that a relative large number of dealers seem to be crap (to be honest, the dealer I use for my parts was recommended by a good friend for excellent service) but like with any brand, you can have a lemon or a diamond in both car and dealer. I think if we keep each other posted on good and bad dealers, the bad ones will go out of business eventually and the good ones are left. Then we can just hope that JLR gets reliability right eventually, looking at the statistics they are improving just not as fast as we would like  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Not that I'm an anorak in any way !, but BMW acquired Land Rover in 1994 and sold to Ford in 2000, so they did all the design and development of the L322, or to be more correct, the L30 under the BMW model naming convention, and never had any returns from its £2billion investment in it.

I agree, things have improved but I just wonder whether things are just too complex now.

Well I've had ford, Citroen, fiat and Renault and so far touch wood the RR has been the best of the bunch. Fair do's the others were mainly sporty high string versions, r5 turbo/20vt coupe... And the Orion and xantias were sedate but the RR has done what the Xantias did but with so much refinement inside its a league ahead. The ride is not as compliant though  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

But do you not think LR's reliability issues lie within the. Pushing the boundaries of creating the best/ most capable off vehicle available? Maybe if they played safe, then they would work every day.
But they don't, they create desirable and functional vehicles.
