2010 Conversion - Lights too Bright + DRL Question

Hi all,

I have a 2008 TDV8 FFRR with a 2010 conversion, I didn't do the conversion.

The rear lights are too bright, as bright as fog lights. I keep getting people flashing there fog lights at me when they come past. When I press the rear fog light button the lights do get brighter so the fog lights are not stuck on or anything silly like that.

I've noticed on 2010 + models just the 2 rings of the rear lights are illuminated at night when lights are on. On mine, the 2 rings are illuminated but the bottom half circle is also illuminated like the old model lights, see pic (not my car):

As above those two lower half sections are also on, and very very bright. I think the rings are also brighter than normal. I've actually put black electrical tape over the lower half circles as a temp fix which looks really classy! Laughing I think the front lights are also a tad bright too, my LEDs seem brighter than other 2010 + models I've seen, looks good though! Razz

Does anyone have any ideas how to cure this, I'm guessing it's maybe a wiring issue? The previous owner did have issues with the lights flashing like a disco while driving! He actually bought & installed a new 2010 ECU from Land Rover which cured it but sometimes when I turn the car on the lights still do this mad disco flashing thing, not whilst driving though!

Anyhow any help would be appreciated, if anyone can recommend a company near London / Surrey / Kent / Sussex etc that does conversions that may be able to help me, check wiring etc then let me know who they are Smile

Also whilst I'm here, I read earlier that you can turn the DRL function on if you have a 2010 model so that the front LEDs are on without having the rears on. I know mine is a 2008 but it does have a 2010 ECU!! Does that mean I can get someone to activate it?

Let me know!

Cheers all,

T

not familiar with the 2010 lights , but could it be the brakes lights accidentally wired in with the rears?

as for turning the drl function on/off , the IIDTool now covers your year ecu, give steve a pm just to confirm...and you should be able to switch off the light check on startup so you wont get the disco light effect.. ... - .- -.

Thanks for the reply Stan much appreciated.

I will wait and see if someone knows more about the 2010 lights. Do you know any indies around my area that specialise in 2010 coversions? Need to get some bushes done as well so need to find someone that can sort all niggles. You may be write re the wiring.

Also who is Steve, just username "Steve"?

Thanks buddy,

Thanks have sent them both a PM, just to need to find someone in the UK with that machine for a 2010 ECU. Also need to turn on the lazy lock/unlcok feature as doesn't seem to be activated!

How much does it cost? Contact Britpart yeah?

Is there anyone that has the IIDTool that can help me as opposed to buying it, happy to pay etc. Would like to turn on DRL & lazy lock/unlock. Maybe lower a small amount if possible.

I take it as I have a 2010 ECU I'll need to find someone that has a 2010 IIDTool? Question

Re my brightness issue hopefully cam-tech-craig wil be able to assist.

Cheers all, helpful site.

The IID tool is VIN locked, so it is time to take the plunge mate, it seems you will not regret it Wink l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

You might have a problem if you buy a MY2010 IIDTool, as your car is an MY2008. I'd be very surprised if the conversion included a 2010 LCM module. I know you said the previous owner did this, but I would like to know who did the programming for them, as I'm sure a LR dealer wouldn't go near it with a very long barge pole!
Even if it has a 2010 LCM, all the other 30+ ECUs are still 2008................... Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

My faultmate should communicate with your 2010 LCM but DRL is enabled in the CCF (Car Configuration File) which is accessed from the BCM (Body Control Module) which will still be a 2008 model and therefore counts me out and here lies your problem! Mixed modules from two different model years which may also be having an impact on your brightness issues Rolling Eyes

As others have already suggested Cam-tech-Craig I am sure will be along to offer you a more informed opinion very soon!
