Newbie saying hello and help !

Hello All

Great to finally be a member on here as been reading a lot of posts before finally finding the right FF.

I am going to view/buy the new beast on Wednesday and am looking at a 2004 / 54 - FF - 4.4 v8 petrol

I have read a lot of the horror stories on here and wondered if anyone could give me some guidance on what to look for and double check before handing over a lot of cash !

All guidance would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

Welcome to the forum. Thumbs Up

Make sure all the electrics work, play with all the switches & buttons. Wink
Raise and lower the suspension and listen for hissing from each corner in the raised (off road) position.
Take it on a good test drive so that it gets to full working temperature, try the kickdown and manual mode on the auto box and make sure there's no lights on the dash.
Check the service history and what was done at each service.

In the boot space, pull up the floor and check the spare, also check for water in the spare wheel well and that all the tools are there with the locking wheelnut key.

Under the bonnet, before you start it just feel the engine to see if it's warm, you want to be starting it from cold to make sure it starts OK. Open the oil filler cap and have a look at the chain inside, it should be nice & clean, no black deposits on anything.

That should get you going and I'm sure others will be able to point you towards other areas to look at.

Just remember to let your head rule your heart, not the other way round. Thumbs Up

give it a good drive and do some very light acceleration from stand still, turn the stereo and all other distractions off, you are looking to fill any vibrations around 20 to 50 mph,it will be low down in the seat area, they could be very light and only for 1 or 2 seconds so concentrate this could and most times is the start to gearbox probs, do this a few times in auto and manual. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

And the biggest thing.

THERE ARE ALOT ABOUT so don't be overcome with lust at how beautiful it is, if something isn't right, walk away
There are plenty to look at, don't let your heart rule your head

Even something very small can be costly

Drive a few of them, even if you are sure about this one, try a few others aswell

Ha Ha, I have a habit of impulsive buys !

I am going to try to resist the urge and truly hope the current owner is telling me the truth about its history and condition. He has currently told me about the MOT advisories which it has just had. And said the air suspension stopped working over the last winter but this got fixed by a software update from RR ?

And buy some shares in BP and Shell so you can at least get a little back from all your fill ups! Laughing

On a serious note, follow the above contributions and advice and you should do well. The L322 is a great car, and if you get a good one you will not want to drive anything else.. Tom

Air suspension issues? Shocked I'd be gone faster than you can say "HOW f*&king much?!".

I know you want the car because it's shiny and sexy and gorgeous, but there are dozens more out there. And it's really a buyers market at the moment (this is the worst time of year to be selling a FFRR) so please don't convince yourself everything will be fine.

It could well be that it was a software issue resovled by an update from his dealer, but then again it could be something more serious just waiting to come back again.

Why not look for one that HASN'T had any air suspension issues? Question Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...
