I got the estimate this morning. They plan to strip the paint on the front part, recover with epoxy filler, sand smooth with the existing paint, then repaint and reapply new RR letters.

Make sure they paint the whole bonnet (hood) panel. |

Yes that was for repainting the entire hood. Only the damaged area would be stripped and epoxied however. The remaining vast surface would simply be prepped by SOP (std operating procedures) for repaint. This particular shop repairs some high-end exotics that are quite rare in France. His explanation was that the factory paint was a tad too thin, letting stone chips penetrate to the aluminium. Once that happened, oxidation took over and insinuated itself under the paint, thus enlarging the damaged area. That seemed a reasonable explanation to me. Reno, on assignment in France. |

Maybe but as a dealer I have NEVER seen anything like that and personally would run from that car. |

Have you any nice LHD models in stock that I might consider as an alternative? I can dream, eh? I would prefer to live in the UK and do business there, but our factory is here, for now. Life in France is way different. Cars are often regarded as appliances here. Reno, on assignment in France. |

Reno, although the price seems fair enough for a good RR, you've posted on so many probs now that I'd drop the idea of this one too - or your buddy gives a 2 year warranty as he has a shop. But since it is a 'buddy' or at least someone who might be more valuable as a friend than a person to exchange nasty letters via a lawyer with, look for another RR.

Small world indeed. I am poor at Deutsch but have so far purchased several fine cars there. Wohin sind dem Verkauftwagen bitte? I once landed a pristine one-owner E32 750is that had been driven only in summer. 300hp, no waiting. I appreciate all the advice from everyone here. I'm giving my buddy some frank feedback on this car, heading off for vacation in sunny CA, then will look again for an L322 in August. If he has fixed all the suspension woes, I may still consider this one though. All service receipts are available and I will also look through them. Reno, on assignment in France. |
