True but the gearbox also routes its oil through a cooler does it not?

The amount of space around the engine in the engine bay and the transmisson would surely allow for great airflow over it and i dont thrash it much either so it gets plenty of cool down time  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

SWMBO recently bought a 2003 BMW Mini One.
Amongst other issues the engine cooling fan resistor has failed.While researching this issue I came across information which stated that the temperature gauge is very vague and is driven from the computer so as not to concern the driver . When I get into the car computer settings I can bring up real temperature (which I verifed by external equipment)and the car is sitting at over 110 degrees C and starting to boil over but the temp gauge is dead centre. The cooling fans do not cut in till over 100 degrees. These cars are built by BMW which also had a large hand in early L322s.

Funny that you just post this now, Adrian. I hadn't noticed this thread in the past and after having a read accessing the BMW 'secret service menu' (shhhh... ) to check the exact coolant temp was going to be one of my suggestions.

Also, one thing to consider is that over a speed of about 30mph, the fans do nothing but enjoy the ride. So if you are positive you'll never sit in traffic, removing the fan should not be too much of a problem.

That said, there is a reason that the fan is there and the thought of having to jump out in traffic and getting my tie caught in the serpentine belt as I desperately try to reinstall the fan does not tickle my fancy. And God forbid SWMBO get's caught somewhere...

Since this hot weather has started mines been making a right noise!! I presume it's the fan as it matches the description others have given, so now just the call to remove it or not?? FFRR TD6 HSE

Well I have no intention of removing the fan. LR must have fitted it for a reason

Mine's staying put too, given the fun I had fitting it back on after changing the thermostat. That said, it must be there for a reason...... .

So following on from all the previous threads has anyone managed to fit an electric fan to the shroud?
I ask this because I think fitting it to the radiator as most electric fans are is not as efficient as the shroud.

TBH i can only see it being there for very hot climates where the aircon may be off with the windows open to ensure air flows over the engine. For us lot it should be ok unless temps go over 40'C FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Bimmernav thing doesnt work on mine

Has anyone done this on the 4.4 v8?
i have the viscous fan removed on my 300tdi disco and never have an issue, until last weekend when it was very hot 30ish in wales, steep uphill climbs made the temp rise very quickly, but on road was no issue in the heat

but was wondering if i could remove it on my l322 without to much of an issue, or change it to a leccy one?

iirc the 4.4's are known to overheat anyway are they not so i wouldnt chance it and i'd get an electic one fitted and take the chance to flush the cooling system as well. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
