Poll. What pressure cap is fitted to your M62 V8

There is a lot of confusion about what is correct.

Parts sheets all say 140 (1.4 bar) is the correct replacement.

Common sense (and many owners) say the 200 (2 bar) is correct...

Which one is fitted to your Petrol V8 (BMW Engine not the Jag engine -so per-touch screen petrol cars only)

The number is either embossed on the top of the cap, or else on the bottom. The 140 has a yellow insert visible a the bottom, the 200 is all black.

Mine has the yellow insert.
US-spec, 2005 model year.
Since there seems to be some difference between US model year and UK model year, mine is the last year with the BMW M62 engine.

I replaced my 200 last winter with a 140 since everybody said 140. But that was when the problems began.
After much confusion with an incontinent L322 I looked at my old cap today and it reads 200 !
I replaced the 140 with my old 200 cap now (lucky I had not discarded it) and I agree black is the way to go. Radiator hose pressure is high at 105 celcius so important to have fresh hoses to increase chances for engine survival.

Some advocate for modifying so that the thermostat pre-heater is on at all times while ignition is on so the engine always run at the colder setting.
But this gets fierce advocacy posts from people who defend why the design needs to be the way it is. /gunnar L322 Vogue V8 -03 Giverny Green

The design could be to reduce emissions and not because it is "better" for the engine. Not saying that it is like that here but could be. Same with the fuel system programming, they are based on improving the emissions (based on the standard tests) and that is not always optimum driveability. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

It's on it's second engine! Due to overheating Whistle (previous owner replaced the engine) . Current engine sits in the middle of temp guage and doesnt move a bit. Does seem to use a very small amount of coolant though (its also had a very recent water pump, rad and hoses so i know they're not leaking - maybe time to upgrade to stop the minor loss but on the flip side though I don't want to fit a higher pressure cap and blow some hoses! 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
