I've just fitted some new wall lights, and once the power was on the lights worked, but as I dimmed them the transformers blew. Quick look at the instructions and it says not suitable for dimmers. . I then looked at the ones I had fitted in the lounge and they say the same but are working fine on a dimmer. The transformers in the lights are Hui Bo Long HTV60CL1 and I've found them online for about £18, but the data sheet says they can be used on a dimmer if it's on the primary. I have the dimmer on the supply so why are have they blown and the others haven't? Any ideas? Each transformer will take maximum 60W load whether on the primary or secondary circuit.
I presume therefore you only have 60W of lighrting on each transformer, if more than this the transformer will be over loaded.
Normally it would be advisable to use 1 transformer per lamp fitting.
60W is not a lot for tungsten halogen lighting.

Each light fitting has its own transformer, and has 3 of the small halogen bulbs in it. I don't understand why each one blew when dimmed and the one in the lounge are the same set up and are ok? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

If the transformers are in the primary they should dim ok.
Assuming the fittings and bulbs are ok I would change a transformer from the lounge to the dining room and see what happens.
Its not inconceivable you have been supplied with faulty transformers.

If you have the transformers in the mains voltage supply they are in the primary circuit.
Secondary refers to the 11.5V circuit.

Sounds to me like the transformer's primary connections are the wrong way around. Researching my first Range Rover purchase
