Just had my first (and hopefully last) prang!

Proving that exercise is not good for you, I've just pranged my FF in the gym car park! Big Cry

I've no idea whose fault it was either. I wanted to park in space that's at right angles to the exit of the car park. There was nobody about, so I stuck my nose out of the car park exit in order to get the correct angle to reverse into the space; selected reverse and CLONK! A little Fiesta had nipped out of his space and right behind me assuming that I was leaving the car park. He saw my reverse lights, but couldn't get into reverse and get out of the way in time. Censored

I have to admit I didn't see him at all - he wasn't there a few seconds previously so I have to admit not rechecking my mirrors or noticing him in the camera...he must've appeared pretty sharply behind me.

Anyway....he was a nice guy and we'll get it sorted. The FF has a minor flesh wound with a scratched bumper and smashed rear reflector, the front of his Fiesta didn't fare quite so well. Whistle

Here's a pic -

As luck Rolling Eyes would have it, my car is going in to the paint shop on Monday for some colour coding bits and bobs, so I'll just get them to paint the rear bumper as well. However, is the rear reflector a separate part (i.e. I don't need to buy a whole rear valance or anything stupid do I)? If I can get hold of one by Monday I should be able to have everything back together by Tuesday.

I hate imperfections on my car....it makes my head messy! :blub:

I bought a rear reflector for around £20 and it clips in easily, and without tools, in a matter of seconds.

I bet Duckworth Parts can sort you out.

Fortuitous timing, in truth.

The way I see it you were reversing into YOUR space and this idiot slammed into the back of you while stationary. He wasnt watch and going to fast! Highway code states you should leave a gap big enough to stop no matter what the situation. Wasn't your fault! Wink Whistle [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Nonetheless insurance companies automatically assume you are at fault if the accident occurred whilst you were in reverse gear.
I was hit by a women reversing out of her park space whilst I was reversing into mine. She didn't look my way as the traffic flow was from the other. Even tho she hit my car (not any of my FFRRs thankfully) midships the insurance companies said it was 50/50 blame! Go figure.

I think this would end up being 50:50 if we got to arguing about it formally.

However, I've already got (and fitted!) the new reflector and the paint shop 'only' want another £175 to remove and repaint the entire bumper (there are a couple of other little marks, not caused by the prang, that I might as well get sorted whilst it's in there).

My excess is £200 so there's no point in using insurance. Assuming that Fiesta-boy's repair quote doesn't come in at a silly amount we've basically agreed just to fix our own cars outside of insurance. Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Blimey - you don't hang about! Yesterday you had no idea if reflectors were available as separate items, and by today you've bought one and fitted it!

Heh heh. I had a meeting this morning that happened to take me past a LR dealer who happened to have one in stock. Fitting takes all of 5 seconds. Thumbs Up Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...
