I'd NEVER lock the car up with dog inside in the heat or with no windows open, but is it possible to lock up the FFRR doors, but leave an inch of each window open for the mutt if Im running in a shop or petrol station?

As your car is BMW era, I would suggest you DOUBLE PRESS the lock button which deactivates the interior sensors and tilt sensors. 10MY- it's the opposite way round.

drive into statoin, open windows, get out, lock doors with fob, but what you need, come back, unlock doors...

I believe the alarm won't set if windows are not properly closed, but if not then a double press of the fob will lock but disable the internal alarm for sure.

You can buy small universal catches for the boot (fits most cars) that leave a c.1" gap but means you can still lock the vehicle. This allows air to circulate for the dog if kept in the boot area but also leaves the car secure and weatherproof, which leaving the windows ajar won't do.
I use them all the time as I sleep my gundogs in a cage in the boot.

On my 2006 the double press (press once, wait for 2 seconds, press again) locks the car and disables the interior sensors, so mutley's safe and not setting of the alarm. Haven't tried the windows down yet - only needed to use it a couple of times in the winter when raining and for short (5min) periods.

Why not lock the doors, disable the alarm as before described, tie the dog in the boot and leave the top half of the boot fully open. Unless you have a hamster of a dog, I can't see anyone trying to get in the car past the rotty? Current MY2020
