4.4 TDV8 - Which Gearbox?

I've been looking online at 4.4 TDV8s. Prices are now starting to get within reach. Given that my current FFRR is an LPGed 4.4V8, I'd like similar fuel costs which means the 4.4 TDV8 with it's sequential turbos is the only way to go as I expect to see high 20s/low 30s mpg.

Anyway, I'd rather like the one with the LCD dash, although they cost a few quid more. However, I can live without it provided the non-LCD cars (with the gearstick, not the rotary selector) get the same economy. My understanding is the LCD cars have an 8-speed gearbox, which will give the economy I want. Do the "gearstick" cars have that or do they have a 5-speed?

Thanks. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

All 4.4 TDV8 models have an 8-speed gearbox with rotary gear selector, the gearstick shift means it is a 3.6 TDV8.
From 2010 model onwards a TFT dash was introduced on the 3.6 TDV8 and Supercharged (and 5L non-Supercharged).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. In that case there are a couple which are incorrectly advertised. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

Fantastic car but do not kid yourself on MPG, 15000 miles average just over 24 mpg, oh and the computer lies. letters not necessarily in the right order

From the ref material I have, the 4.4 V8 Diesel came out with the 2011 Model Year revisions, so you could have a late 2010 registered car with the 4,4, but definately not a 2009 car.

If you want to simply check, if you can get the VIN, it will be of the form

SAL - Land Rover
LM - Range Rover
A - Standard Trim Class
M - 4 Door Body Style (a legacy from the 2 door early Classic ?)

and then the engine code ;

either
D - 5 litre V8 Petrol
E - 5 litre V8 Supercharged
2 - 3,6 litre V8 Diesel
7 - 3.6 litre V8 Diesel with DPF

Don't know the 4.4 TDV8 VIN engine code, but it won't be a 2 or a 7......

then

3 - RHD Auto
4 - LHD Auto

9 - Model year (2009)

A - Solihul Build Location

and 6 digits for individual car...........

So it probably starts SALLMAM239A or something.

This is clearly a 3.6 TDV8 as it is pre-2010 facelift.

For economy you have 2 choices....

TDV8/TD6 on BioD
OR
4.4 V8 on LPG and then a tank in your back garden and get it filled at a discounted rate Wink

PS no need to fill this post with the usual BioD and LPG warnings of doom and gloom, pls let the OP just read this Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

There is the outside option of getting the current car refurbished by JE or someone in a few years.

I'm planning to review the situation of whether or not to keep it when it reaches 100k miles (currently 78k). A refurb would be a few years further down the line.

There is the third economy option - buy a 50mpg shed for going to work and have a nice Rangie for family runs out. Wink 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster
