Lost service book - how can I find the service history.

Hi, I've just bought myself a 2003 Vogue V8 from a dealer but have discovered the service book is missing- the dealer is adamant the vehicle has been serviced regularly at its local LR dealer (HR Owen) since new , he states the vehicle is known to him and was a local vehicle but the service book has been mislaid. I have called the local HR Owens and they state they have no record of the vehicle either by searching by chassis no. Or it's two reg no's (it's had a cherished transfer at some point) . I've also called the Dealership who originally supplied the vehicle (which is no longer a LR dealer or a HR Owen hence have lost a lot off their systems - all they can tell me is the vehicle has no outstanding recalls and was last seen by them 2005 Shocked . They stated the databases aren't centralised so I have to know where the vehicle was serviced to be able to find out which work was done at each dealer.
I'm guessing if there's no outstanding recalls then it MUST have been serviced somewhere!?!.!
Is there a way I can plug the car in and download the history? Ie does the ecu log service resets etc. any ideas how I can find out service dates? Apparently one dealer told me LR data drops off the system after 5 years!

Sorry guys I'm a complete and utter noob (you can probably tell as I appear to have bought a car without service history!) Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry 2003 Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

Contact LR Dealer, they can provide a printout of all service history (and recalls etc) for you .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Was the vehicle advertised as having service history. If it was then the dealer you bought it from has to come up with the service book, otherwise vehicle is not as described and you will have recourse under Sale of Goods Act 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Have you got the details of previous owners?
If Yes, I would search for Land Rover specialists or dealers in their area and see what the search throws up. I had a similar problem with the Jaguar that I had bought, although it had a full service book, none of the invoices came with the car.
I opted to send a pre-paid envelope together will my contact info to the previous owner, a few calls later, he posted back a bundle of invoices. If you done something similar, I am sure the owner will be able to tell you where he or she got the car maintained.

I had a similar situation with mine. Unfortunately the only response I got from previous owner was "Vehicle was sold as seen to XXX - I am afraid I am not able to assist you further" ... and I only got 1 Key with mine!

What I did was check the vehicle's MOT history on the VOSA site and from that called up the garage that did the MOT's and asked if they had any records - Luckily they did and I managed to get all the service History for the prior 3 ywears which I thought was pretty good.

The Land Rover Dealers were useless - saying that there was no central database to show when or where a car had been serviced (although others on here have said differrent) and the two places I called said that they had no record of the car - even though one of them were the supplying dealer!

Hope that helps and Good Luck! African Bush Junkie ... in London!
