Insurance Question

There seems to be a lot of knowledge on here re: Insurance - so here goes.

My daughter just had a bump, a big one, in fact her car is a total loss and so is the one that hit her - she was to blame.

She has 9 years protected NCD but the question I have - is it transferable?

I know if she renews with existing company they reassess her risk, now much higher, and apply the protected discount obviously the cost will rise significantly because of the shunt but she'll get the discount factored into the calculation.

However what happens if she changes company, my view is that protecting NCD only works if you stay with the same company but I've no experience to actually confirm one way or another.

Anyone got any actual experience or knowledge that might be helpful in getting to the bottom of this, everyone seems to have an opinion - like me - but some real life experience or a view of someone in the industry would be really helpful Thumbs Up Geoff

Protected is protected. It should be transferable as she will still get a letter from them saying she has X years of ncb Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Yes, should be transferable, however I would just check when getting quotes, because you should always disclose if you've had an accident and to blame. Best to tell them otherwise she may not be covered in the event of another if they found out.

They normally ask "have you had a claim in the last 3 .....5 years etc" so unfortunately that would be Yes.

I'd be surprised if a different insurance company honoured the protected NCD, other than as a sweetener to gain your business.

Protected by the insurance company offering it, nothing to do with a rival insurance company in my opinion.
