MPG dropped after new fuel filter?

I noticed my v8 petrol was returning quite poor milage a few weeks ago. Couldn't get my head round it. The computer suggest it returns less than 14 mpg on a steady motorway run, where as it would return in the 20's before, yet when I come off the motorway and drive home through the hills (we live quite rural), it would go up to 14 and a bit? Then I realised it has recently had a new fuel filter as my garage thought they spotted a small leak.

I assume the 2 must be related. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

IMHO a new filter can only improve MPG! Strange one...

That's what o thought! Wondered if there maybe a sensor connected to it or something that could affect the computer Question Range Rover 4.4 V8 Autobiography
