Renewing Insurance ....how to half my premium

So the time has come to renew my car insurance. I received the letter in the post from my current insurer to advise me my insurance premium had gone up from £780 to £1,000...this is typical although not logical considering another year of no claim and the reduction the value of the car, so I decided to look around.

SHMBO went on line to get some quotes and entered all the info for the car including a value at £50,000; this returned an annual premium of around £950 with one well known insurer that use little red telephones on wheels insisting I had a tracker fitted. So being smarter than me, she changed the value to £49,999 and guess what....

The premium went down to £538 and no traccker required!

I think I'll buy her dinner tonight Smile

Ps just to note I drive 30,000 miles a year with business use, hire car, fully comp and protected no claims etc. Current MY2020
Gone: 1 x L405 and 2 x L322's

Its the market value that they pay out which hacks me off instead of paying out what you actually insure it for
