Damn puddle lamps!

So I p*ssed about with my mirrors and my puddle lamps today for about 20 minutes, but couldn't for the life of me work out how the hell to get the bulbs out.

I tried a screwdriver in the side of the lights but it just made some cracking noises and I didn't dare try and lever them out.

Then I tried to prise off the mirror covers, but nothing really moved and I just felt like I was going to break something.

Can someone explain how to do it to me in words that a five year old would understand please?! Embarassed

Thanks in advance. Thumbs Up Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Shove a screwdriver in - on the INSIDE (i.e. nearest car), push it in a bit, then pry. Out they pop (you are inserting the screwdriver to push a tab) Land Rover Addict

Cheers DMRR. That's where I was inserting the screwdriver, but nothing was happening apart from a few cracking noises. I really felt like I was just going to break something.

Maybe I'll try again tomorrow with a longer, thinner version... Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

What model year we talking? I'm sure (I could be wrong as I did the job a while ago) that you prise the covers from the front of the mirrors, and access the lamps that way. Confused

Edited to add- It's held by a screw on the inside...

My car is a 2007.

See that's the thing...some say you need to remove the covers - others that you can just pop the lights out. Confused

I also have body coloured mirror covers on my car - wonder if that'll make it harder to get them off.

So annoying...normally this kind of thing is a piece of p*ss, but I'm struggling! Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

On my 2004 (2005 model, it has the rectangle lens under the mirror), these are easy to remove if you are careful. I think the older models with the small circular lens need access from behind the mirror. Tom

Just use an old credit card and go round the edges of the cover first, the light holder just twist then pull. Bulbs just push in. Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

Sorry Glideman - can you explain a bit more - what do you mean the edges of the cover?

Where the cover joins the main body of the mirror. Gently push the card into the gap until you free all the clips, then pull the cover forward. Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

This is what the approach light on my 2005 looks like.

Clip on the left released by sticking a screwdriver in under the mirror lens.

From an earlier post:

Quote:
Lens removed from mirror by tilting the mirror glass fully up and in, then a slot is visible below the mirror glass into which a screwdriver can be inserted to push a spring catch on the lens towards the inboard end of the mirror, releasing the lens.

Lolo,

With the greatest of respect, you're doing it wrong.

Very Happy

The clip is released from above, not below.

There is a special slot moulded into the mirror housing for exactly this purpose.

Tilt the mirror glass up and in, then squint between the mirror and the housing and you will see it.
