Wales 2003 Range Rover SE Td6 Zambezi Silver

OK, going back to the original post. It was stated that seats can be fitted quite cheaply into the back of a van and could something similar not be done in a FF. it has to be pointed out that most vans have a pretty flat metal base in the back and it would be quite easy to bolt some metal brackets down to take some extra seats. The floor in the back of a FF is really just a plastic panel covered with carpet. Not an ideal base to use. So if you lift the base out and look for solid metal underneath there isn't really an easy way of fitting brackets. I guess there are the wheel arches and various bits of bodywork around the spare wheel recess. This would make for quite a complicated bit of fabrication to produce some decent solid brackets. Also a FF owner would want a pretty decent looking set up in a rather expensive car.

Bearing in mind that for a company to design and produce something that would be suitable, would be quite expensive, also considering that the whole set up would have quite a limited market, I think it is understandable that it seems to be quite expensive compared to the task of fitting seats in the back of a flat bottomed van. I guess it's a case of the market setting the prices.

I guess an alternative could be if you had a friend who was a skilled metal worker they could possibly come up with something that did the job. Then of course you would have the task of finding some decent seats that wouldn't detract from the quality of the original items.

Hope this post is of some use. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I understand what you're saying.

If I bought a fully loaded RR @ £70k+ then north of a grand is nothing but back down at £10-£12k then it's like 10-12% of the price.

I do know a metal working company but I don't think they play around with cars but I also have a contact that repairs smashed up caterhams so that's an avenue worth exploring. I did know some aviation fitters but I don't think they're around anymore. There's also a pretty good coachbuilders close by so I'm full of alternatives.

I just wanted to see if anyone else knew of any alternatives.

There's nothing saying that any of my suggestions are going to come in for a price so I may have to use one of the 3 companies I found that do them. Overfinch aren't a million miles away from me but I haven't spoken to them yet.

Choices choices.........just need to source a motor now!

The overfinch seats very occasionally come up on ebay. Worth putting in an email alert.

Mine is a seven seater with a dealer supplied 6th/7th seat system that folds flat into the boot floor (much like a Volvo estate) Simply replaces the boot floor/spare wheel cover with a cartridge that bolts in using the luggage hook bolts...

A very nice system with inertia real seatbelts and fully certificated... Logic 7 Seating from memory...

You'd have to loose 2 or 3 feet in height to be able to use them........ Laughing

Just realised I'm supposed to sit in the front where the wheel thing is !!

Seriously, they look good, and would be the ideal solution.

Sneaky suspicion they are gonna be rare, and expensive.........

I haven't called Scotseats just yet (they're in Scotland so it's a distance if I go to them or they come to me which will effect the price somewhat) but I have spoke to the guy who does them from ebay. Again, he's a fair distance away and to be honest, £1400 irks me for what they are.

There was a set of Overfinch on ebay a few months ago and they didn't fit in with solid brackets but sort of hooked over some existing part within the boot space and the rear headrests.

Yes Steve the "cassette" is about 2" above floor level and overall about 6" deep. They were a really expensive dealer option when new, made by Logic seating i think? But have long since gone bust i believe...

I have a 13yr old daughter and a 4yr old son and they both love sitting in the rear when we take out the grandparents... They do insist on waving at the cars behind though (quite amusing when you think i have factory black glass!) Laughing

Now for the biggest p Censored s off, i paid £75 at the old sodbury sortout for the kit, new in the box... Ner Ner Ner Ner Ner Ner

Shocked

I think I know why, tho: I can just picture one defender owner after another whipping out a tape measure only to realize the seat is too wide to be used as a passenger seat only, and too narrow for use as a bench seat à la American pick-up (even with a very artfully bent shift lever to curve around the front edge of the seat Laughing ).

So you were lucky. You had no competitors driving the price up because L322 owners were too busy polishing the crystal tumblers in the H&H bar drawer to slog through a muddy field full of LR parts.

Wouldn't have been that way if I'd have been there...
