Services and Intervals

Hi,
as you may have read I am looking to join the FFRR fold soon. I got a little burnt when I bought a D2 a coule of years ago so am doing a bit more research for this purchase.

What are the service intervals for the 4,4 V8 petrols (bmw) and which are the big services?

thanks
Rich cheers
Rich

no expert on petrol FFRR's, but if i am not mistaken all FF's are computer driven for services, in other words it will let you know when it is due and it depends on the mileage and how you drive it as to when it appears.

there are 3 services, oil and insp 1, insp 2

the insp 2 is a biggy. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Think it's generally regarded as 15k / 12 months or as mentioned 'when the computer says'

I understand it's relative to the car but in general what's the rates for the main services?

Does everyone do main dealer or specialists?

i just had oil service at main dealer couple of weeks ago and it cost just over £300, obviously an insp 1 or 2 will cost much more!!

main service at 60K on my D2 and this is a few years ago now!! was £800!!! that was a 4.0l V8. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Yup, on the bright side, Vaseline is only a few quid a tub!

For my next service I think I'm going to a local Garage and using genuine parts- I feel aggrieved at the rates they charge for unskilled monkeys.

having said that, mine is a 55 plate so a full LRSH is not as important as making sure all of the maintenance is done properly.

YMMV
Thumbs Up

I just did an oil service on my Supercharged myself - total cost: £62.00, that was £12 for genuine filter and £50 for 8 litres of Castrol 5w30 from Tesco !

Plus, I know it was done correctly Thumbs Up Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

Is that OK then? You don't need to hook up to a computer to reset or check the onboard computer?

Next time you need an oil change, buy me a plane ticket from Denver to London.
Send a limo to come pick me up at Heathrow.
We'll swing by the auto parts & pick up a couple gallons of oil & a filter.
Letting the limo idle in your driveway, I'll change the oil in your garage, take the limo back to the airport, then fly back home.

I'm not positive, but I think that will save you money.

I'm apparently the poor country cousin on this board; there's no way in hell I'd pay that kind of money for an oil change. Jim

on a TDV8 what is the difference between an insp 1 and 2.

as far as i can see it is the air filter, could be wrong though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Doing the service myself in no way implies a lack of records.
I have a database of all our vehicles that records every bit of work ever done, including mileage, date & cost.

One of my early jobs was working in a car dealership (Jag & BMW).
Just because the dealer charges you as if the "technicians" have some skill does NOT mean they do.
They throw parts at a problem, they don't try to figure things out.
Book Rate pay scale means the mechanics get paid based on whatever the factory book says; if the book says it takes 3 hours to do a job, they get paid for 3 hours, whether it takes 1 hour or 5.
So the "mechanics" work fast, frequently "billing out" well over 40 hours a week.
Not exactly an incentive to do the job right.

But, as you said, choices.
I didn't choose my grandparents wisely, so I can't afford to have the dealer work on my Rovers. Sad Jim
