How is the NEW RR TDV8 4.4 Diesel model?

Hu Guys,

I really like the TDV8 4.4 Diesel launched 2010, I would like to buy a good second hand one, I knew that previous RR had front diff fail, battery drain, air suspension, drivetrian...etc those common/annoying problems.

So I really would like to hear from whom had owned the TDV8 4.4 Diesel from some kind of long period(i knew its still new since 2010), how is this particular model? do you suffer any issue with it? is there any known common issue with it? does all the above mentioned issues been addressed?

Thank you very much in advance!!!

Regards

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Orkney Grey

I bought a new one last september, so it's the 2012 model year, but no problems at all in 9 months of ownership.
The battery issues have definately been sorted.

I think if you're buying an early 2010 version you'll probably have a 3.6 TDV8. I'm not sure if those had battery issues as I think it was the 1st lot of 4.4 TDV8 in late 2010/early 2011 ???
Someone more knowledgable will be along shortly Bow down

I don't know of any other problem other than the battery issue which has been discussed on here a lot :

Nothing wrong with the 3.6, but If you can go to 4.4 it's definately a great upgrade Thumbs Up

Thanks a lot rolo, definately, I only interested in 4.4L TDV8, as I do think 3.6L is not powerful enough for my driving or for the 3 tone beast.

How about the rest of the problems I mentioned above guys? any advice are more than welcome!!!

Picked up my 2011MY 4.4 TDV8 in November '11. I've driven over 20,000 miles since then...yes high mileage! It hasn't missed a beat, no problems with the car at all Smile Current MY2020

Remap a 3.6 - same power. It is plenty powerful without a remap, lots more power than the outgoing 3.0 TD6. Land Rover Addict

So go and buy one then. The issues you mention initially date back to 2002. Not really relevant, barring the crap battery for the 2011-> Land Rover Addict

from yours and rolo's Sep model, seems the later 2011 registed model doesnt suffer the battery drain problem? nice to know that.
does the 4.4 tdv8 have a new front diff design to dress the previous problem?

The front diff was dealt with in the 2006MY vehicle (way way back in 2005) Land Rover Addict

Many thanks DMRR, good to know that. as the RR reliability was my biggest concern, will give me peace of mind by knowing that.

the L322 launched since 2002 and its been over 10 years, so, I think the last batch of RR L322 should be mature enough to solve all the previous model year's problem? the new model L405 will launch next year?God knows what annoying problems will the new L405 develop, and i heard the L405 will be lighter? sure that will improve fuel bill, but on the other side, the heavier one will generally safer, thus not interested in the new model.

I hope I can get a last batch L322 and keep as long as it worth.

I don't really see that you've got much to worry about. If you'll only consider a 4.4 then you'll be looking at a 2010 or newer, which means you'll be dropping a hefty lump of cash, which means you'll most likely be buying it from a main Land Rover dealer, which means you'll have a LR warranty. Whilst that won't stop you getting a Friday car it should give you some peace of mind.

If I had the cash I wouldn't think twice.

Like DMRR says...go get one! (And then post the pics for us all to see)! Wink Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

No question the new model will be a safer thing to crash in. Car safety improves quickly and the L322 is a decade old.

In any case, I generally try to avoid crashing wherever possible.

Exactly!!! The car's safety is only the last defence if the worst happened.
