I know this topic comes up every now and again and I've seen very little FFRR with the extra seats in the boot space.

Has anyone had this done?

Has anyone got some spare old rear seats for sale?

I've had a quick look around ebay and such and I don't understand why I can get a full 5 seat interior package for £650 yet the rear seats come in more than double that.

There's plenty of other '3rd row seats' out there for peanut prices so surely these can be retrofitted the same as the supposed dedicated seats.

Van drivers do this all the time adding extra seats so why the high costs with RRs?

I know I can get an 05 Disco 7 seater for 03 FFRR money but I don't want one.

Any help or advice?

The mulitmac one look really clever but I have 5 kids (15,13,4,3,10wks) so I need 7 seats.

time to trade the FFRR in for a D3/4 i think!!! either that or buy a TV to amuse yourself!!!..  Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

As above if you need to carry everyone at once a lot of the time then im afraid your safer to move the FFRR on and get a D3/4 with the seats already in it. the kids will be safer IMO as they have been fully tested and put in from the factory.

If not then buy a cheap MPV like a Voyager or Corrola Verso as they are getting cheap now.

Even cheaper are thinks like the Pug 806, Citroen synergie, fiat ulysses as they use JTD/HDi engines which are pretty strong units, or the even better XUD engines which can run on veggie oil, circa 93p/litre from costco to help cut costs and they are pretty hard wearing inside.

Leather trims come up cheap every now and again and with kids i'd always say getting cheap leather is better than a cloth type interior as it cleans easier and looks much better for longer  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I think other posters realise that and some have suggested that maybe a cheap conversion isn't always the safest option. You need to decide is your priority a safe way of transporting your family, or a cheap way to bodge some extra seats, that may not be the safest thing to do.

You mention van drivers doing something similar. Well I remember once sitting in the back of a van in an old car seat held in place with a bungy cord. Yes it was cheap, but would I want a child sitting on it? Probably not. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

There are companies that fit boot seats with certificates of conformity. Overfinch are one example. I'm not going to bolt a couple of van seats in the back. At worst I'll spend the £1400 and get the seats designed for the back but I wanted to know what the other options were and why these seats were so blinking expensive.

By using word like 'bodge' puts them across in quite a negative light and I do care about the safety of my family, that's why I'm going for a FFRR.

I used to take my kids out for rides in a Ferrari F355 Spider and they always used to catch fire! Took the risk and it never happened to me in 3 years ownership.

When I only had 2 kids they sat in the bucket seats in a 911 which were prone to the rear end spinning out. When the kids were with me my right foot became lighter.

I have been known, although I don't like it now and I don't do it anymore, to take the older ones out pillion on my superbike. (I don't feel in control with the weight change so I stick to single seats now)

On a school day I let them walk across a busy road with no extra protection from vehicles on the road and they make it back home at the end of the day.

As mentioned, thanks for the input but I'm happy putting myself and my kids in the back of the RR on certified seats that are fully insured.

If you expected all greens from front end smashes then think again....

When you look at the others tested in the same class it just seems that the more modern cars have the better protection.

The Freelander 2 fairs better than the 2002 RR.

I wish there was a better way in a RR too.
The official one is expensive and doesn't look that great to me. And I dont love the rear facing either.
