FFRR dealers in Rep Ireland?

How would Irish owners rate RR dealers in the northern half of the republic, ie Dublin and points north?

I imagine I'd be best trying to source a used TDV8 from a dealer, getting issues sorted there and then. It might also give me some protection from the dreaded 'bad diesel' problems we get in the border counties.

Also, does anyone know of a good RR service to be had in northern Ireland, maybe Enniskillen / Derry areas? It might be cheaper to get servicing there, I'm thinking.

Am I mad to think of a FFRR in this neck of the woods? Very Happy

I find most dealers are dreadful especially those in Dublin few exceptions but they would be further south. Buying from a dealer is a good idea as you will get 12 months warranty but expect to pay a bit more. I bought mine from a non franchised dealer although garage was AA and SIMI aproved and its been superb. There are some very good independents North and south that I can recommend for servicing once your warranty ha expired one in Wicklow and one in Kildare the latter being where I had my car serviced recently all with landrover genuine parts or Euro 350. Hope that helps.

Just the type of info I need, Googsy. Many thanks.

I really do fancy a TVD8, but I don't want to be a complete idiot either. It does seem that the sheer complexity of the beast means regular dealer trips are likely, and if i can't find a repair shop I can trust within reasonable reach, there'd be no point.

Very much Trooper and Pajero country up here.

As googsy said, with a dealer ur getting a bit of safety net if anything goes wrong, but with indy dealers, most only offer 3 mnths warranty on engine, gearbox etc.

Private, you will get a much better price, but u don't know what ur getting ur self into.

And as for main dealers knowledge, personally I don't rate them here. I called them a few times bout getting software updates and parts etc and they hadn't got a clue. I was telling them what they should know already. That's why I hang out here Thumbs Up

I get mine serviced in Wicklow, an indy, v knowledgable and good price too, and most of the time I source my own parts.

Then there is also car warranty which a couple of companies offer here, which I personally think is a must with these motors. Seems to be cheaper than uk, imagine that!

From a purchasing point of view I bought mine off a non-LR garage in Dublin (AA/SIMI) and was happy to do so as I got a 6 month warranty with that garage.Irish LR dealers charge you a hefty premium to by from them for a similar 6-12 month warranty and the money I saved covered for me any potential issues. It was more important for me to buy on condition than where I bought it.

My personal opinion of LR garages in Ireland is very poor.Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. They are only basic franchised services with no LR Ireland office at all.

From a servicing point I have to agree with the other lads,I recently popped into one of the northside Dublin ones with a small problem (fuel issue) on my 4.4 v8 and was slightly worried with the response that we have never worked on a petrol one never mind the comment about not seeing one before either.I go to the main dealer in Belfast if I'm up that direction or I can heartily recommend the indy in Wicklow but they are not cheap on the labour front.I have yet to try the Indy in Kildare but am going to try them next for a service.350 euro seems good value. Thumbs Up

Think I need to relocate to UK Very Happy

Thanks for all your thoughts. From what you've said, sounds like I'll be looking to buy from a non-LR garage in the South but get service in the North. Wicklow is just too far away.

Does anyone have any experience of TP Topping Landrover in Enniskillen for servicing?

You wouldnt relocate to Ireland if you saw the state of the roads Gaz,the annual road tax 1683 euro per year on anything over 3 litres pre 2008 and 2258 euro on post 2008 with emissions of greater than 225g/km,which is most of LR model range and never mind the dealer network over here.We are having major problems with washed diesel and dirty petrol in the garages here because of very high fuel prices....

.You don't have it all that bad in the UK .The grass isnt always greener especially when it comes to Ireland... Crying or Very sad

Brahms...no experience of that northern dealership but worth a try me thinks.Best of luck with the search

I second that for dealer Indy in Wicklow although I thought they had started to get a bit dear. I used company in Naas very good .

No experience of Indys in the North .

Got full report on car all landrover servicing as per landrover spec including doors greased handbrake cleaned free tracking and headlight alignmentThey did say they would be increasing it due to price of oil but even if it was 450 for a service2 thats excellent in my book. Thumbs Up

Gaz we could always buy the warranty for you here add a small margin and sell it onto you Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Hi from the Disco3 forum, spotted your thread and thought I would add my 2p worth Thumbs Up

I'm based in Derry and LR Dealers are quite limited in these parts, I normally use Hursts in Belfast for any servicing work but just recently I have been recommended an Indy in Coleraine, Jamison Land Rover Specialist, the head guy up their is ex Hursts LR Workshop Manager and the guys really know their stuff. TP Topping in Enniskillen have also received great reviews from a family friend if that closer for you.

Their is a franchised dealer in Letterkenny, had the pleasure of pricing them for a service before and their lack of knowledge and phone manners made me take my business elsewhere Neutral

HTH Thumbs Up

Thanks again, all.

No doubt when you look at it, Rep Ireland's not the best place to own an RR. I can see that more than a little commitment is required.

@ndisco3, that's just what i've heard about the Letterkenny dealer; unfortunately they're the nearest for me. Very good to hear that Topping's are recommended. I think they're the servicing solution.
