Where's the best place to go for a realistic valuation?

Hi,
I've been looking for a nice tidy early 4.4 V8. I don't do a lot of miles and this seems to fit the bill.
I've looked a 3 vogues 2 V8s and a TD6 so far - the prices have been all over the place - the TD6 dropped by 1k after I pointed out the tiredness...

what is the rough rule of thumb for valuing them?

I am looking at an '02 V8 with 105k on the clock, good servicing over the last 5 years has had new box and a few others bits. Outside is generally ok with a couple of scuffs. Inside the dash vents are broken and the drivers seat trim is broken over the switches..

owner thinks 7.5k, I'm more inclined to 5.5 - 6 - who is right? or am i on completely the wrong page?

Rich

it's only worth what someone will pay and the other will accept.

I know this cos I've been selling my cars for a few weeks without giving it away. I turned down 8k the other day and probably in hindsight should have accepted it, but have about 4 x 7.5k offers on the table so I guess 7.5k seems optimistic, but I think I own a very nice car so maybe you are right, but tbh if the owner doesnt want to part with it at that money, and doesn't need the cash then you'll never get it. I think 7k is probably it's worth not 5.5 in any market!! all smug in my new plug!

saw it properly on Monday had a good look round it. Needed a bit of tidying up inside and the broken bits are about 500 to get fixed.. there were a few scuffs round the outside - would have gone to 6.5 but he was adamant that it was worth 7-7.5 - his mates said so... so i walked away - in hindsight i did the right thing , there are a few around for a few beer tokens more in a lot better condition... (including yours..) cheers

I think you probably were fair in the 6.5 if you needed to spend 500 on it.

I know my mate paid 7 grand for an 02 115k on clock, in silver with black and it was a 4.4V8 petrol with 20's on it and he is trade. That was about 4 weeks ago if that helps any. all smug in my new plug!

in total i think to get it to a similar condition to our xtype it would have been closer to 750-1k.. the 500 is for dash vents and drivers seat 'switch housing' but it needed a good detailing and there was a few other bits inside i wasn't happy with..(nor was the oh)

I am new to FFRRs and don't know whether i am aiming to high with expectations and too low with budget..
but i will keep my eye out and see what's around.. cheers

See I did all those bits as I can't drive something thats "hanging" so I think if you see one with the little fixes all done it's likely to be a nice example I think. all smug in my new plug!
