Side light removal help please!

I've bought new LED sidelights (decent quality canbus) for my FFRR cos the side lights look awful compared to the brilliant white lights of the bi xenons.
I've looked at the rave disc & on the Powerful UK site but here's the problem, I cant get the plastic nut to loosen off! Big Cry I can reach the nearside one easily enough but it still wont move, but the drivers side is impossible to reach ( 05 TD6 Vogue). Would it be easier to remove the headlights for better access? All assistance gratefully received...Robert. Bow down The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

For the driverside one, I pulled the airbox hose out and moved it up a bit (the end that goes into the engine cover) to gain access to the plastic nut. The first time I did mine they were super tight and took ages, but they did come loose in the end. When I got them out I replaced the threaded bolts that the plastic nut screws onto with a new one, and greased them as my old ones were rusty.

Mine have been quick and easy ever since. Reformed

This fixing is one of the worst designed features on the FFRR. Neither of mine work now so have resorted to cable clips to holds things together. The problem may arise that you can turn the plastic nut thingy but then the whole bolt starts turning!! If this happens you may have to get out the hacksaw blade. I was able to get a pair of long handled pliers into the space to hold the bolt whilst turning the nut.

I am going to come up with a new design that works!

As it is fixed onto the headlight, removing the headlight unit will mean you'll get the sidelight unit out as well, giving your good access to the plastic nut. However, you have to remove the sidelight in order to get at the lower fixing nut for the headlamp unit, so you are Censored !!

Try to get lots of easing oil/WD40 down onto the bolt.

Best of luck .

Does any one know what size the thread is for the long bolt that holds the sidelight on with the wheel and plastic thingy?

Too small for my random nut collection Smile .

DO NOT USE WD40 ON THE THEM, THE PLASTIC NUT WILL REACT WITH IT AN SWELL, THEN YOU WILL REALLY HAVE THE TIGHTEST NOUTS YOU WILL HAVE HAD FOR ALONG TIME!!

USE WATER ON IT WARM, THIS EXPANDS THE NUT AS PLASTIC EXPANDS FAST THAN THE STEEL THREAD

I brought a box with a variety of nuts and bolts in different lengths and sizes and there was a few that was exact size, so I replaced the bolts, cleaned them up and used some thread grease on the thread. Been fine since. I will look at the box and see if the sizes are on there. Reformed

Halfords do a nut and bolt kit "HFX511" (£3.79) with the right sized bolt in it to replace the rusty no good one.

An M5 x 50mm

I plan to fit new bolt to sidelight, run a nut up against the fitting on the other side and tighten to hold the bolt in place, then fit the circular thingy, refit the sidelight, then fit the plastic knob thingy back on, using some grease to prevent future rust. .
