Rear towing eye.

On my current Sport the bracket the detachable tow ball fits into has a built-in Eye for attaching a tow rope, I cannot see a similar Eye on the real Range Rover I'm getting next so wonder if there is one. The TPOix handbook has no mention of a towing eye as far as I can see.

Nope. You need to buy the complete kit (armature, towball, electrics, ECU); the receiver for the towing ball is in the armature. Try Dan at Duckworth Parts (site sponsor) Graham

The rear vehicle towing eye on mine is on the driver side by the exhaust. It is part of the towing bracket but there might have been one on the part they removed to fit the bar, I will have a look.

The ring next to the toes hitch on the sport may well be to attach the breakaway cable on a trailer or caravan. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Sorry I should have explained. I have a new Westminster on order which will have the detachable 13 pin comfort tow bar fitted, but the handbook does not show a towing eye anywhere.

Your probably right northernmonkeyjones about the eye on the Sport being there to attach a breakaway cable, but worked a treat when a Transit required a tow start. Will check the pictures to see if there is a removable panel by the drivers side exhaust.

Mine isn't behind A panel it physically protrudes from the underside of the car, I suspect it will be on the towing sub assembly as its all westfalia and they are unlikely to have modified it a lot. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

OK, just to be clear. The RRS has an eye (exactly like a D3 does) which is both central and an integral part of the chassis. It is hugely heavy duty.

The FFRR does not have a chassis, it is a monocoque on 2 subframes. It also has a towing eye which is offset to the right and you have to screw in the actual eye thingy. You should never use this to tow anything heavier than your average bicycle because of the off-centre loading; it can twist the body, especially with the grunt available from these engines.

If you must offer breakdown services to van drivers then fit the comfort towball part first and use that. It's a 30 second job to fit and it's rated at 3500 KGs

Mine doesnt screw in, its permanent and acording to the handbook on my knee at the moment it is designed to be used for recovery in on road situations of either the rangie or another vehicle being recovered. In my eyes if it can be used for another vehicle to recover the rangie then it can be used for the rangie to recover a smaller vehicle, on road only though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks mzpicg lots of information I was not aware of and some sound advice as well. Thumbs Up

Thanks also northernmonkeyjones, while there is the slightest chance of causing damage I think I will use the tow bar should I ever need to attach a tow rope again just to be on the safe side.

I've also learned why the jacks on both vehicles have very different brackets? where they contact the vehicle for lifting.

@ oldcro

You could also fit a reversing cam to keep an eye on things with TV in motion up front! Mr. Green Rolling with laughter .
