1968 Frazer Nash BMW 2000 ti

Thought I'd help this section along with some photos my Chamonix White Frazer Nash BMW 2000 Ti Mr. Green

I've owned it since last summer, bought at auction. What caught my eye originally was the Frazer Nash connection, there are 2 pre-war Frazer Nashes in the family so it was too interesting not to take a peek at.

Once I saw it I was smitten Embarassed

This is one of the "big brothers" to the better-known BMW 02 series of cars; the 4 door saloon was launched in 1962 to save BMW from financial collapse as prior to that its model range consisted of bubble cars and V8 limousines and sports cars.

However, the issues for UK buyers of BMWs were two-fold - one, they cost half as much again as a Jaguar or Rover; and two, the kind of person buying an executive car like this probably flew a Spitfire during the war and wouldn't buy a German car. Shocked

The UK importers, AFN Limited, had manufactured Frazer Nash sports and racing cars both pre- and post-war, as well as importing BMWs (such as the 328) pre-war as "Frazer Nash-BMW".

So, back to the 1960s, and the top of the range model (the 2000 ti) was Anglicised, becoming a "Frazer Nash BMW 2000 ti", and received UK-specific equipment such as a wooden steering wheel and gearknob, vinyl roof, front spotlights, air horns and reversing lights. Apparently 100 were sold, of which this is believed to be one of 2 or 3 remaining.

Sadly the wooden wheel and vinyl roof are no longer on my car.

Since I bought it I've fitted rear seat belts, changed the track rod ends, replaced the fuel tank, and fitted a solid state fuel pump (replacing the cam-driven mechanical one), but mostly I've just been enjoying driving around in it Smile

Amazingly, plenty of parts are still available from BMW Very Happy

Anyway, enough chatter, here are the pics.

Ah yes, it would have had steel wheels and hubcaps on originally, thankfully it was on these Minilites which I think made it look a lot less staid.

It's all continental/Eastern European, James Bond (60's) car chase in the Alps, could go faster backwards than forwards (like the NSU and old Peugot Cabrio). Love it. Reminiscent also of the Triumph Vitesse in many ways. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Lovely, lovely example!! Those Minilites, as you said, really set it apart. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

Scotland 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Tonga Green

I just sold a 1974 2002 with the lovely round rear clusters that I did some classic rallying in. Great fun and the brakes prepare you for the Range Rover!
