Buying advice - Mileages!

Hello chaps!

I've been 'lurking' here for a while but thought it might be time to make the plunge and post something. Apologies if this has been covered before but I've searched and couldn't find anything!

I'm looking at moving in to civilised (compared to previous cars!) FFRR territory (prob an 07/57 reg TDV8 Vogue/Vogue SE) and, in general terms, what does the average annual mileage tend to be in these cars? Is it better to get a newer car with higher mileage or vice versa? Do these cars tend to bear up to higher mileages well (in terms of mechanicals, interiors, etc)?

Any help would be appreciated - many thanks!

The later MY 07 upwards fair very well to high mileages and tbh so do the earlier ones.As long as the maintenance has been looked after then personally I would rather save £5k and buy a higher miler than spend another £5k with lower miles as most things in those extra miles have been paid for & taken care of NOT BY YOU.....Which is nice. Thumbs Up

Plus if like me you do a less than average annual mileage then when the time comes to sell its evened itself out nicely. Smile If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

Help!!!

Hello all! Thanks very much for your responses above, most useful. I've been carrying out my search and think I've found the almost perfect car - Black TDV8 Vogue SE, with black interior, supercharged alloys and bits and tow bar (no caravans, just a bike rack!). 57-plate, from LR main dealer at a reasonable price. BUT... it's just done 56,000 miles!

Is this an issue for a car of this age? Most of the other similarly aged cars seem to be in the high 30s to mid 40s.

Particularly annoyingly, the same dealer has a lower mileage SE for just a £1000 more, but it doesn't look anywhere near as nice. Is this the sensible choice though?

Cheers in advance!

Hi and welcome,

why doesn't it look as nice? if its just bits and pieces like accessories, do a deal and get him to swop some over - moist dealers will for a financial insentive and to get a sale from you.

When I bought my last vehicle, I played hard to get and the salesman, said

Quote:
"look I need the sale, what do I have to do to get you to buy it"

I negotiated quite a few extras and at no cost, rubber mats, carpet mats, Supercharged Grills, Tow Bar, electrics etc. I was also offered 20" but declined to take...
