A lot of the time you find the headlight units are completely different although they appear similar. There is a ballast / igniter pack for each bulb and also a linkage that attaches to the rear suspension as Xenon lights must have an automatic levelling system (to comply fully with the law). The headlight switch is sometimes different too as Halogen headlights sometimes have an adjuster incorporated into the switch to lower the beams as you increase the load in the vehicle.
Another 'legal' requirement is a headlamp Wash/Wipe. I'd imagine to retrofit OEM units would need some changes to the wiing loom. The loom may already be in place for the components needed, a lot of marques install the looms to cater for all options and just omit the components if there not required for that trim level.
If its the later 'active' style Xenon lights there would also be an input from a Steering angle sensor and likely an additional control module.

Cheers, there's no height adjusters ... guessing it is because the vehicle is on air, and therefore will level itself. It has washers. I wasn't aware that they came with non-xenons tbh, but miss my adaptive lights from the 2010. This one doesn't even do the Clarence the cross eyed Lion on startup  Land Rover Addict

You could try one of the 'Canbus error free' type aftermarket kits from a popular auction site.
There are two types of bulb the one designed for a reflector Halogen enclosure usually has an 'R' after the bulb designation e.g. H7R, H4R.
Do you know if your headlights are Reflector or Projector?

Projectors usually have a round domed lens over the bulb.

They are projector, don't think any L322's have any other type. I find it odd that I've owned 4 of the things, and 3 had Xenon's .... and this one doesn't. Guessing they were an option on the pre-2006 I had, but ..... Land Rover Addict

H7 is a Halogen bulb, if that's what fits in your headlamp try an auction site search for H7 HID kit or similar, be sure to check the reviews etc as some of the kits available claim to be error free and as soon as they're fitted you get a bulb out warning on your dash.

You might also want to have a look at prices, I've just been trolling through Famous Four's site:

Halogen headlamp unit : @ £194
Bi-Xenon headlamp unit: @ £594

Though you can get replacement lenses and seals for @ £50. (up to 5A999999 )

Off to buy some light guards  .

Bought the new H7's ... open up the dim/dip to find it's Xenon. Question why is there :

1. No flash when they start up like all my others....
2. No adjustment check like all my others.... Land Rover Addict
