South Africa 2009 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Diesel....

Am I supposed to give it a thrash now and again? I know the later ones have the DPF that needs clearing, but what about my 56 plate? Do they coke up and need booting?

With any diesel I'd always reccomend a monthly Italian tune up especially if it does short journeys as you'll soon see the clouds behind you. Specially if you do it at night and someone is behind you Smile

The dpf ones require a good 20min drive at at least 50mph free getting the exhaust hot to be able to burn it off Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Typical daily run is 18 miles to work, 18 back. All on back roads, so not constant speed or anything over 50 really. Land Rover Addict

when the engine is warm then, likely after about 10 miles for you, i'd take it upto the red line for a bit as that should keep it flushed Smile

THe TD6 like every other diesel on the market gets taken to full revs during your annual MOT & I've never heard of one letting go! Rolling Eyes Seems that there is an anti TD6 thread building up on the forum.

There is no need to Red Line a TD6 or any other diesel on a regular basis. Put you foot down now and then yes but Red Line not necessary.

I have 3 diesel vehicles and they never get red lined

...and my MOT tester would never red line it for the emissions test either Wink

I stand corrected although I never claimed that the engine was taken to the "red line". I was just told that the car was taken to full revs for the emissions test. I was also under the impression that a diesel is limited in revs so therefor cannot be "red lined" unlike its petrol cousin.
