Your favourite L322?

Afternoon Chaps,

Despite selling my L322 a few months ago, I keep searching the classifieds to find another. Most people I know have a dislike for my Volvo and as such I am keen on replacing it. As time passes I have grown to prefer the 2006-2008 3.6 TDV8 facelift model over the 2009> and 2002-2005 models.

What are your thoughts, which is your favourite L322 style? And which is your favourite engine?

Best,

Ram

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I would definitely go for one of the newer S/C's although I still have not driven a TDV8 for comparison. If they are (almost) as nice to drive then I would go for the cheaper one (long term, so including depreciation and running cost). Also I would go for the high spec versions. I'd say 2009 and newer. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zermatt Silver

This is a tricky subject as they're all pretty bloody special things to look at, drive and own.

I find the 4.2 SC alluring, but then would my 'favourite' then be a 5.0 SC?

Same with the TDV8. Definitely 4.4, but would this be more 'favourite' than a 5.0? I suppose that the hedonist in me would pick the 5.0 SC.

Then there's trim and colour and spec. All pretty variable to suit owner requirements. And it's easy to have one favourite one day and then change your mind the next.

I've seen a few metallic gold (please forgive me for not knowing the LR description) and, with the right wheels, they look stunning! But then I've always liked L322's in dark colours more generally.

Interior? Again, your old one (mine now... Twisted Evil ) pretty much does it for me with Oxford / Parchment and the 2010 steering wheel and walnut door handle cappings.

Then there's the subject of wheels. Oh my, what a subject and how I've personally angst'ed myself over that one!! And each facelifted model brings a different answer.

But a faceliftted model is equally appealing. It's a bit like asking if you'd rather have Farrah Fawcett or Morgan Fairchild (back in their heyday) in your bed.

So, I'd stick my neck out and say 5.0 SC in a dark colour with a dark / light interior combination of some sort. And that's about as far as I'd go.

But a 4.4 TDV8 would probably get me going almost as much. Probably.

And then, for sheer value for money..... 4.4 V8 petrol like I have (or you did have Twisted Evil ) as that V8 sounds sooooo gorgeous when revved (as it was this morning overtaking a pleb on a deserted back road).

But then again, a 3.6 TDV8 is becoming serious value for money, so would that be favourite in the right colour / trim combination? Si. <This is my name.

OK.

Morgan. Thumbs Up Laughing

Seriously, do you see my point?

A RR is one of those cars that, when asked what you drive, doesn't need to be defined. Merely saying Range Rover is sufficient.

You mention Land Rover and people automatically think of a Series or Defender, but it could be a Discovery or Freebie. And if you do say Discovery, you probably refine it further. A FF doesn't need that further qualification.

So defining a favourite becomes a matter of refinement reserved only to enthusiasts. To all others, it's a RR. The end.

5.0SC for sure. Si. <This is my name.

Scotland 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black

I really liked my 2002 4.4 Vogue, Java Black with light interior and never really considered a face lift version.

Now changed to 2010 4.4 TDV8, Santorini Black Ivory interior and just find it so much nicer than the 2002, still not convinced about the black headlining though.

Have never driven a SC so cannot compare it but the 4.4 TDV8 is so much better than the 4.4 petrol.

I have to say that the 4.4 petrol was so much better than the 4.0 P38 it replaced and the P38 was so much better than the 3.5 classic it replaced.

I like my original 2004 but also the newer 2009 design too. The 2005-2008 facelift does not click with me for some reason. Tom

I think its about the originality and condition of the car. An all original Mint 2003 Autobiography is just as exciting and looks just as good as an original Mint 2007 TDV8 Vogue Se or a original Mint 2010 5.0 Supercharged. Thumbs Up

2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I guess (a) we're all biased and (b) it's all subjective anyway, but for me, I like mine, or one looking like it, most! One of the reasons I didn't want it written off....

Mine's an 06 facelift, but has an "SC conversion" which was done before I bought it. I know that's a topic of some debate on here!! Mine has SC grille and vents, 20" SC wheels, clear rear lights (I've always hated "Lexus" lights but they seem to work here) and I think the black badges are non-standard? Privacy rear glass. I did take off the ridiculous "Supercharged" rear badge which was on there and replaced with a standard Vogue.

So as I say, I know it's contentious but I love the way mine looks. I'm really not (yet) taken with the latest style with the deep front bib & grille.

Incidentally, I was out on the bike last weekend and came up behind a FFRR being used as a "limo" according to the decals on the back, which, aurally, was most definitely not only ageing slightly, but also using a TD6, and it too had an SC badge on the back!
