Guys,

Short story - renewal quote has come in with 25% increase from last year (£425 up to £535) with no changes, claims, accidents etc.

Went online to check what a new quote would be from the same provider and using the exact same details (only changed my email address) and it came in at £453.

Got a few other quotes around the £500 mark from elsewhere and approached the current provider with this info and also their own "new" quote of £453 to see if they could match/reduce the renewal premium.

Answer came back that best they could do would drop to £520 ( thanks very much).

Question is this - what is stopping me simply buying a new policy from them at £453 rather than renewing? I can't see any small print that this rate is only for new customers etc etc.

Something i'm missing here?

You have gave them all the correct details so you are not breaking any law , as daveo says changing an e-mail address is not illegal …

So personally i would go with it ….

For £50 I would tell them to stick it right up their ar5e and pay the extra to a reputable company

i strongly advise going onto a price comparison site..these sites get special introductory discounts from the insurers which really bring down the costs.. ... - .- -.

I only changed the email address so that the system didn't recognise me as an existing customer and send me to "My account" which shows the higher renewal price...

The other £500 ish quotes were from price comparison sites (i always try 2 or 3 of these every year). Unfortunately, the cheapest on all of these was my current insurer...

Just tried getting a new quote after logging into "My Account" and now have the 2 quotes logged, both with the same details, but one is named "Renewal", and one is "New Quote". Only difference is new one is £80 cheaper.....

Guess I'll just cancel the auto-renewal quote and buy the new quote from the same account...or just drop my excess to £0 and pay the same as my renewal quote..

Why they didn't just offer me this in the first place is beyond me...Bunch of numpties that they are...

This could be fun, there now asking me for proof of my NCD..

I just know that they are going to ask me to apply in writing to them for a copy of the evidence and then mail it straight back to them!

Shop around before you commit, I pay £340 per annum for my FFRR insurance

As stan says shop around, I pay £274 but then I do have cows and sheep for neighbours.

Funny how you guys with the cheap rates all drive TD6's I'd rather pay the extra and drive my petrol 4.4 V8!

Trust me, i shopped around a hell of a lot - always do. Tried all the comparison sites as well as the few providers that don't affiliate with them. My provider came up tops every time. Even their renewal premium of £530+ was in the top 5, the final price paid (£453) was by far the cheapest of all quotes received, so i'm happy.

Also, being just a young pup (32) and living in central Aberdeen doesn't do anything for the premium!

I got mine originally through Quidco and it's from Aviva, got £60 cash back, and I did get it which made it cheaper than all the comparison sites.

I just renewed with Aviva because I am a lazy but it was less than last year - funny enough I can't remember the price but it was more than £400 and less than £500 but I am old, have masses of no claims, no convictions, low mileage.

Just renewed mine today with Admiral - their renewal quote seemed high so I went on compate the market & they came up cheapest. All I had to do was supply the quote number and they honoured that.
