Omega Speedmaster.

Just a question for the fonts of all knowledge (and the people who have Range Rover's!),

I've just got a new watch for upcoming 50th birthday and am wondering whether to sell old one (Omega Speedmaster Automatic). I looked on the bay of fleas, but there are so many (blatant) fakes for sale on there, that the prices are all over the place.

Anyone here got any good ideas of the best way to sell it without letting it go for next to nothing?

Get a trusted jeweller to value it for you?

OK, so you'll pay a 10% fee, but you could use that valuation as a strengthener on your eBay ad and should see it back with a better price. Si. <This is my name.

I know what's it's worth - had it valued nt long back when I sent it off for service - it's just a matter of working out how best to achieve that valuation Confused

Try www.watchfinder.co.uk I used them recently when trading in a couple of pieces for a nice shiny new one.
Very professional, and more importantly, trustworthy! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I suspect you got an insurance valuation.

Divide to 3 or 4 to get the price that a watch buyer would pay for the item.

I recently sold a watch with a valuation figure of £5000.

The best offer I received was £1400, as the dealer said:-

The watch is second hand
You lose the VAT as soon as it leaves the shop.
I will mark it up to £3000.00, hope it sells and accept an offer of £2500 upwards depending on how long it has been in stock.

You may get a better price on ebay, I would suggest "watching" a few similar ones to see what they go for. There are so many fakes around that ebay sales often disappoint.

But like cars really, except they do depreciate slower.

All of the above assumes that the watch is in as new condition, signs of wear and tear will reduce the valuation significantly.

Finally a watch without papers and the original box is very difficult to sell, as I have found to my cost.

Good luck

See what reputable sellers are selling them for on ebay. That's what the watch is actually worth. But advertise it on here once you get a price, and it'll go to a good home and will be a more pleasant sale! Thumbs Up 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Pistonheads Classified watch sales is not a bad place to sell. Unfortunately you won't be able to use TZ-UK to sell as you're not a member but you'll be able to guage a price from there as there's always a few Speedy's for sale. Personally I think that's the best place to buy and sell.
I'd avoid Ebay for something like this. I've seen too many scams there with watches.
Just out of interest what is it? Model number, year etc. Would like to see a photo as I've a bit of an Omega fan and have a few myself. Regards

Thanks for all the replies.

I am a member of TZ-UK - but have never posted on there - so can't advertise yet...

The watch is a fairly obsurce Speedmaster that I bought new in 1998 - complete with all the papers, boxes etc etc. The model is ST375.0083

Replacement valuse is always more than sale value I know - but I'd rather keep it than let it go for 10p!

I've used it every day since I've had it and it's been perfect - also had it serviced every three years - last time about 2 years ago now.

That's really lovely and I bet would create some real interest on TZ.
I'm in the same position as you with TZ though. Been a member for 3 or 4 years but am still not at the 250 post count to sell there. Regards
