My wife phoned me today at work to tell me the car has started making a squeeking / grinding noise from the front LHS when she turns the steering

Upon invetsigation when I got home - she was indeed correct - It almost seemed like it was coming from the glove box.

I got her to rock the steering from left to right until I investigated - what i found was that the noise was coming from the strut top mount.

So I took the black cap of the strut top and sprayed WD40 all around the top of the strut and took it for a drive - it has stopped making the noise.

Question is - can anyone tell me what kind of bearing is in there and if it's meant to be a sealed bearing ? I hope WD40 is OK for it - it's certainly stopped making the noise now.....or am I looking at a a bigger problem ?
