12MY Cost Cutting

Have been driving around in my friend's 12MY Vogue. I cannot believe the amount of cost cutting that's evident between my 11MY and his 12MY. I know my car is an Autobiography and his is a Vogue but I am not aware of this having a bearing on these cuts. Firstly the tyres are awful - why have they moved to continental tyres?! They're so much noisier than my Pirellis. Next the sound proofing has clearly been reduced. It's still quiet but when riding in the back in particular it is much much noises. My rear glass is laminated but I'm unsure if it's because mine is privacy glass? If so can't believe how much difference it makes.

The rear view camera is awful. My lines 'bend' as you adjust the steering wheel to guide you. These stay static. The overall screen quality of the nav system has also deteriorated. What are they doing?!?!

The bendy lines come with the exterior camera's I think. Does he have these? Continental were standard on the 10MY....did they change? Not sure the resolution has gone *down*, are you sure he's just got different settings for font size etc?

Mick has said this before that the laminated glass makes a big differnce.

All L322's had it for the front screens IIRC but it was an option or fitted as std to SC/Autobiography's. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Nope no surround cameras so that may explain it. The front side windows and the windshield are marked as acoustic and laminated but from the B pillar back they're just plain. Mine are marked acoustic and laminated until the C pillar. Can't believe how much difference this makes alone!

Is his Vogue a petrol or diesel?

If you think upto the C pillar makes a difference the armoured units (disco's included) are eerie quiet inside at times unless its bad road surface or the like Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I was told that better materials are used on SE & Autobiography hence the big price difference between base models.................I thought it was salemsan BS, but perhaps they were right.

As mentioned in other posts long ago when you add on all the extra's to a standard vogue an SE or AB had, the price still worked out a few grand cheaper. So maybe they do use other stuff as well to make the cost up ?

I have privacy glass too so can't comment on whether it's quieter than clear, but mine is as quiet as can be. Have to say I've not checked the make of tyres, but certainly no road noise to moan about.

I wonder how the new westminster compares to what was the vogue & vogue se ?

Hi Rolo.

There's definitely a big difference between the quality of the leather. The Oxford leather seems quite plasticy in places but the seats were extremely soft - perhaps even softer than mine because they are not so tightly stitched on the seat base. It's hard to tell if there's differences in the other materials but I can probably see it as being feasible. Don't get me wrong, it was still a fantastic car to be in but I guess I have been very spoilt in mine!

I am thinking the Westminster will be comparable to the Vogue - it's getting the Oxford leather seats rather than semi-analine plus a whole host of extra equipment - I can't see them being able to up the materials to VSE level and not charge a massive premium - the Westminster is £69,995 with loads of options.

It does seem odd they decided to go from vogue & vse now & not wait until the new version to re-brand.

In my mind it would have made far more sense to say the Vogue is now retired and here is the new L405 in Westminster or Autobiography.
Then at least the old shape has it's identity kept in place for the history books.

I think I read somewhere the westy has perforated oxford leather ! So I guess half way to the SE quality ??

I still do wonder with the stories heard that when buying new it can still be hit & miss on what quality a build you end up with. Would it be surprising if they had perhaps forgotten some sound proofing materials in the vogue your friend has and that's why it's noisier?

I agree Rolo. I can only think that they are planning to launch the L405 as 'Range Rover Vogue' and will offer Vogue SE, Vogue HSE, Autobiography etc...in line with the Sport. Yes perforated Oxford Leather which was an option on the Vogue to allow for heated/cooled seats in line with the SE and Autobiography.

To be honest it really wouldn't surprise me - their build quality for a car at this level is ridiculous in some aspects. When you're talking about a car that costs you £70k minimum new, it really should be better all round.

Thats an"older" screenshot date as the one I have today is dated 6th Feb 2012(same prices).

The Westminster does indeed get Oxford PERFORATED heated/cooled seats plus loads of actually useful stuff. If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.
