Some advice on folding wing mirrors please

I have a nasty feeling mine are kaput.

When I press the button (with them out in normal position) they will fold in, then the near side mirror makes a 'clacking' noise as if a gear/cog is slipping or something mechanically nasty, then they'll fold out to normal position straight away.

I've tried the quick tap, the double tap etc. All to no avail.

Also, even when out in normal position both mirrors are very loose. At fast motorway speeds they will fold back a bit - not so much as they are unusuable but enough to have to adjust the mirror to its maximum so I can see behind.

I've not had them off for a look, just wandered if anyone else had had this and if the motors can give up the ghost.

Just to add - the o/s driver's mirror doesn't make any noise at all.
