20" Wheel Dilemma

Gents (and occasional lady),

I come to this church to ask forgiveness and guidance, for I feel I may sin.

My FFRR has 19" alloys and they are lovely. They look good and the Goodyear Wrangler tyres are OK. The rears are getting low, but the front's are fine. They are dutiful and attractive.

But I have been tempted for as long as I can remember by the lure of 20" alloys, although I have no tangible reason to be.

Those who have seen my polished alloys like them. They say 'Simon, you're mad to want 20" wheels. Keep the 19" ones and save your money.' And they are right, of course.

But those 20" alloys keep winking at me. You know the type. Those flat-blade 7 spoke ones that were optional spec until about 2009. Or the 2010 ones. Ooh! Have I been tempted by their seducting looks on many occasions!! I look on AutoTrader for FFRR's with those alloys on and compare them to my own and I want them so much because they fill the arches more and look so right.

Oh woe! I clean my 19"ers and think sensible thoughts. Then I see a Vogue on those delicious 20" wheels and drool and think that my rears are due replacement soon and...

And there's a set of 'new' 2010 alloys with Michelin Diamari's for £1,100 delievered. And I want them!! And there's another set of flat blade ones that need new tyres and I want those too!! Oh how I lust after them.

Please forgive me for these sinful thoughts. My mind is in turmoil and split between head and heart. I want to press 'Buy It Now', I really do!!

I seek guidance from you all and ask which way should I proceed? Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

Andy, could you PM me some pics and let me know what tyres and tread depth are on yours?

If all is good, 4 weeks no problem.

The 7 spokes generally work out more expensively as virtually all the ones for sale either need new tyres or have sub-premium brands fitted. Si. <This is my name.

Who told you I was an occasional lady ? Laughing Thats Thursdays !!

I was in the same boat, but arguably worse, as I had the 18's on, and always wanted 20 inch stormers, where you have to also spend a fortune to get the correct size tyres and not the Range Rover sport ones........

I have since gone to OEM 19 inch, and am very happy............

...........I still have hidden urges though........those sweet sweet stormer rims............

i agree with andy, the wheel/tyre combo on the range is a bit pants...for some reason the rears seem to go to far into the arch so RRS wheel/tyres with bigger j ratings and an extra 4mm offset, are nicer looking 'in' the arch...

mine had 18'' when i brought it and i quickly brought some 9.5j RRS wheels with 295/45/20 tyres, these looked really good..i had a mental moment and sold them which i now regret...
