02 HSE at auction yesterday. Sort of rant.

Went to the local auctions yesterday, this 02 TD6 HSE pulled in..

At first, I thought, looks tidy enough so took a closer look.

Was a bit of a shed really, the front end conversion had dodgey panel gaps, some cheap aftermarket HID conversion, air suspension fault, locked in access mode, interior was a bit of a mess, the leatherette on the door handles were well worn and felt quite sticky, after market speakers butchered into the doors, there was evidence of an amplifier wiring kit still attached to the battery, the rear arches were shot once you open the back doors, it had a bad respray on the o/s/r 1/4 panel and it had chrome stick on tat everywhere.

Still didn't stop the local chavs & wannabe/plastic gangsters crawling all over it saying how 'mint' it looked, loads of them on their phones saying there's a "belta Rangie that they might buy if it's about £3k"

One guy started telling me as I was having a nose around it, how horrendous L322's were and how they have worse reliability record than the P38's and has never met anyone who had a good thing to say about them. Then started pointing out that the BMW 2.5 diesel this one had was woefully underpowered! At first I just humoured him then he kept going on about how crap the L322's were.

I piped up about how I had an '03 Vogue for about 18 months that was possibly the best car I've owned yet and nothing really went wrong with it other than consumables and in a few months will be tracking down a supercharged.

In the end, it sold for £8200 which to me was over priced given it's general condition and faults. Let's hope the new owner doesn't have much headache with it because I have a feeling it'll cost quite a bit to put right 2006 Mercedes CLS

Probably, I was more sort of annoyed at how it attracted the great unwashed Laughing [/pretentious mode]

On the plus side though,, when it was running, then engine sounded sweet enough, just a shame the rest of it was in my opinion, tatty. 2006 Mercedes CLS

It should prove the point that rough cars and rough owners go together.

Maybe expect to see it heavily marked-up on a forecourt near you sometime soon. Si. <This is my name.

@ M44K TS went there last week as its just around tyhe corner from me. Couldnt keep up with the prices as they went that fast.

@ S. Lass Thought I would get some back lash from that comment. No the scratches and scrapes wern't just car doors opening. Driver side bonnet corner (top part) was all scratched, rear wheel arch scratched/dented/disfigured from hitting a wall or something, new bumpers needed plus who ever cleaned it had put swerls all over the paint work Shocked

look like Overfinch replicas, if they were genuine they would have probably been taken off and sold separately
