All new FF Rangie

Does anyone have any good information on the all new RR? I am pretty much at the end of my 2006 S/C and this is the second L322 I had from new but the fuel consumption is getting me down now. It doesnt matter how much money you have or dont have , there is something very upsetting seeing it disappear in such a visual way via the fuel gauge! Mine has also got the habit of the gauge being slightly lower when you restart the car. i.s if you stop with dead on a 1/4 tank its just below when you start it up next!

Anyway, I wanted to hold on for the New RR but may not be able to afford one or wait. Any information would be much appreciated. cheers Andrew 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

I was told yesterday by a dealer that the new car will be launched in the Summer but UK customer cars wont be delivered before 2013.

Nae offence ... but it is a range rover ! The SC is about as bad as you can get when you think about it. V8 = thirsty in any form + bolt on a SC and its literally throwing extra fuel into an already guzzling engine.

I feel your pain! My fuel guage is depressing too! Smile Laughing It is depressing to have driven 20 miles and see a difference in the needle position on the guage. V8 or else ...

indeed , I agree with you. This is the 7th or 8th new RR I have bought starting with an 89 3.5 SE. I know the fuel is bad but it just seems so much worse on this vehicle. I think its probably the recession and the way fuel has gone. I have a good mate who has Rangies as well, and he has gone into a TDV8 from a S/C and he reckons his enjoyment of the vehicle has really come back. I am a die hard petrol guy but in truth the diesels are so good now its hard to justify a petrol nowadays Sad 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

Given that the new one is apparently going to weigh half a tonne less, I imagine fuel consumption (even for the Supercharged petrol, if the UK gets it) is going to be much-improved.

I'm still impressed by 25+ mpg from the 4.4 TDV8 given that it weighs the best part of three tonnes.

I can understand. As a die hard Porsche nut (as well as a LR nut), I was a bit disappointed in myself when my first turbo vehicle ended up being a turbo diesel... Mad

But, after owning several RR V8s, we were looking for a new RR about 10 years ago. I've posted this before, but when I started pushing for a RR 4.6, my wife calculated that based on 20% less consumption, 20% lower cost/L, and the miles we drive/month, we could finance a 2-3 year old RR to 100% on the fuel savings alone! So I've been driving RR turbo diesels for nearly 10 years now. I had both the P38 and L322 chipped and have not regretted it (despite the fact that the P38 ate cyl heads after being chipped and driven flat out for hours on the autobahn...).

When it comes down to it, it's not about which pump you pull up to but what happens when you push the pedal. And as you've said, the new diesels have come a long way. And your enjoyment will increase when your fuel expenses drop as significantly as they will.

I went from a 4.2S/C to a 4.4TDV8 and not regretting it for a second. The only time you notice it is diesel is pulling up to the black handled fuel pump.

I was getting (a very good) 17-18mpg from my 4.2S/C. The 4.4 is getting 26-28mpg.

my 5.0 sc was seeing 14 mpg ave my 4.4 TDV8 26-30 mpg hmm do i miss the 5.0 erm that would be a big No Far to many gone...

I wasn't suggesting that it was, but facts are that 500 bhp in ~2.2 tonnes is going to be a whole lot quicker than 500 bhp in ~2.8 tonnes.

interesting stories and views here. You all know this but I am going to state the obvious anyway. When the first Rangie diesel came along they were dreadful old things and took a prestige luxury car into the realms of a delivery van, ( werent the engine from a peugeot van) , then they gradually improved but never enough for me to even contemplate one until the 3.6 TDV8. I recently drove my brother in laws 4.4 TDV8 and was amazed with it. It is faster of the mark in some ways, the S/C does have to spool up. Like for like performance you have your foot further down on a S/C than a TDV8 and that must translate into low mpg. I tow a lot. I use a large tilt bed Ifor Williams trailer which is probably best part of a ton on it own. Onto that I have variously put loads of 2/3 and even slightly over. The S/C is not the ideal tow car as it is constantly kicking down, and there again, the fuel consumption falls through the floor. It got so bad recently, that I was due to move some vehicles for my father who lives 250 miles from me, which would have involved taking an empty trailer all the way there, and then all the way back. I therefore tried to borrow a trailer up there from a mate rather than stomach the extra fuel consumption. I think , for me a new TDV8 will be a no brainer. Now all I need to do is make the dosh to buy it. 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)
