Old Smokey

Hi, my 2003 TD6 (228,000kms) blows a lot of black smoke under acceleration. This I take to mean its not burning fuel properly. Starting with simple checks how can I tell if my car has been chipped by the previous owner?
If not chipped what else could be causing the black smoke cloud?
I will be fitting new air filter, diesel filter and crank breather filter this weekend.

Thanks
Adrian

The easiest way to find out to ask is to ask them in all honesty Smile

As for the smoke, give it a good service and when putting the new fuel filter on fill it with some injector type cleaner, about half full should do it and the rest in the tank. This will really clean that part of the system out.

Then take it for some good blasting!!

When i got mine it would sometimes smoke from a standing start but now it hardly makes a whiff that i can see in the mirrors, Not sure what its like behind me though but certainly a lot cleaner.

long runs help clear the system of soot deposits as well and another method for built up soot in the exhaust i have done a few times, some fairy liquid up a pipe and then fill it till water comes out with a hose. Then leave for a while and start the engine and drive off Smile Leaves some right dirt on the driveway if its really sooted up inside i can tell you! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
