Had my 2003 TD6 for 2 weeks now. I cleaned out the crankcase breather filter last weekend (ordered a replacement) and she now smokes a lot of black diesel smoke under acceleration and is holding gears a bit longer than it used to. Fuel consumption has dropped from 1000km a tank to 850km a tank.
Its got to be something simple but before I dive back in any advice is gratefully accepted.

I might have found the problem but not yet properly solved it. I was driving on the motorway at our leagl limit of 100kmh and using fuel at the rate of 15 litre per 100km. In frustration I pulled off opened the bonnet and pulled the cold air intake into the airbox off. Wahey I am now getting 10-11 litres per 100km. So I am thinking the intake piping in the rh guard must be crook.
Is it just a matter of dropping out the guard lining and getting to the intake plumbing?
