Service Indicator Info

Folks,

Just been thinking..... (dangerous, I know) that my service indicator should really have been on by now based on the mileage and the last service date. Is there any way of bringing up the info, prior to the time when it would normally come up on the dash?

Had a quick search to avoid repeated topics but couldn't find anything...

My '02 tells me the mileage countdown once I flick on the ignition. It stays there for a few seconds and then disappears.

This is in the LED information area below the main instruments.

This is as per the IOM that I read last weekend. Si. <This is my name.

Bellini - my Disco did the same, once you got within a certain mileage or number of days, but not if it was a long way away.

Scarey - what year is yours? I'll have to look into the dash check thing. I may have to do the unthinkable and consult - THE MANUAL Shocked Noooo!

On my MY04 model, the dash tells me remaining kilometers untill next service, and date of last reset

Apparently intervals vary depending on how car is driven. I believe the interval is about 15K . But I always get serviced at 12K or every year which ever comes sooner. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

googsy - I'm in the same boat. Coming up to 1 year and about 10k miles since the last service so expected to hit some sort of service countdown by now. Will get it done at the 12 month interval anyway, but was just interested to know how far 'the system' thought I was from needing a service.

It is different depending on age of vehicle. the 02 - 05 model shows miles left to next service when you start the car, later models only show you when "when its time" Wink AFAIK .

MY05 is in countdown mode for a few seconds when ignition is turned on. When I last looked it was at 6500km

So, as above, is the average interval around 15k miles? Mines done 12k or more since the last service, nothing on the dash and the handbook says "service in accordance with the service indicator" or similar - so I'm thinking it must be pressing on for service time but not sure when!

Gents

My 06 TDV6 RR Vogue has gone 15K miles and 20 months without any service indicator showing up and I too am a bit worried about whether a service might be overdue - no indicator as of yet. I could book it in now but my service book does not make clear whether it is next due an inspection 1 or an inspection 2 and I'm quite keen to give the car the right service.

- When the indicator does light will it tell me which type of service is due?
- Am I right i thinking that the services roll through a sequence of oil service/inspection 1/inspection 2 and then restart that cycle?
- I have had a few battery issues in the last year. Am I right in assuming that the memory of how far to go to next service would not have been wiped by the car being without power during flat battery/battery replacement periods?

If I know that it will tell me at the appropriate time what service to do I will relax. Happy to get through Xmas without an unnecessary expense...

Many thanks for any tips

Manfrommissended,

The service intervals are

Oil, inspection 1, oil, inspection 2. And repeats. Will indicate what it needs.

If it has not called for it you obviously drive gently, the BMW system should calculate when the service is due, based on how the car is driven, they should have used long life oils at the service intervals, which can(though not totally advisable) last upto 2 years, however I'm pretty sure that servicing the car every 12 months would be recommended by most folks here as a minimum, which would give you changes at 7500 miles, even if it was just an oils change done at somewhere like f1autocentres.(with the correct oil)

Disconnecting the battery will not reset the service memory, that has to be done with a diagnostic tool. If you have the service book with the car look at the last 2 services and you should be able to work out what is due next Thumbs Up

It's what I do with the Skoda as that has long life oils and only calls for service every 2 years.....called for service=dealer, interim oil every 12 months=local garage parts supplied by me. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Never do enough miles in a year to trigger it but it throws up a year warning counting down to due day from 50. I don't think you can call up the info in the interim period but I'm sure a grown up will be along to confirm this or deny it Thumbs Up TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.
