Gave the new car a good thorough wash today, the dealers always load up up on the silicone spray.

Anyway, the alloys seem to have a brown discolouration on them. I tried using Wonder wheels and spent about 20 mins on each wheel but I can't get it off (so far).

Pic below: Has anyone else had the same and know how to get rid?

I presume you've tried polish or a very light abrasive polish?

Failing that, do you think they show any signs of being refurbished? I wonder if they've had the wheels blown over with paint/laquer and it wasn't prepped too well? FFRR TD6 06MY. Cairns Blue, Blue Hide. LR 7 Spoke 20" Wheels, S/C Grill and Vents. Privacy Glass and Side Steps

I've not tried a polish yet, also petrol not tried yet - always a good back stop for stubborn dirt.

Alloys look genuine and untouched thankfully. I've had these marks before, it's come off before I just can't recall how I did it or if it was just a war of attrition! Discovery 4 HSE

Have you tried Tar remover?

Or a clay bar; also try AutoGlym Silicone Resin Polish. Don't use anything abrasive, else you'll take the lacquer off.

It could be left over transport wax from new ? I had similar on my boxster wheels and clay bar removed it with a little effort.

Those alloys are not OEM finish they have been refurbed (Nothing to worry about ) but if no laquer has been used then be careful with solvents

They're in good nick, no pitting or corrosion so at the moment I have nothing to worry about.

Could still be an original finish though; just the acid cleaners used has dulled the lacquer over time.

Try using wheel cleaner on your bodywork to see what I mean!

If you need to get this close to see then leave them, it looks as though they have probably been cleaned with wheel acid that has been too strong or left to dwell for too long by an idiot valeter, come to think about it it was probably the same idiot that "cleaned" it prior to me viewing it. '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto for the Mrs
