I wanna buy a FFRR but is it wise on my budget

Hi All

Great site.

Iam a Brit now living in South Africa,I would like to buy a Landrover and have always liked the FFRR's,but believe me they are expensive over here (as are most cars). My budget is equal to 25-27K and you can't get much for that over here, maybe a 2002 -2003 model with 80,000 miles (minimum) on the clock and there will not be any warranty either!
What do you guys think would be the best model choice for this Year range, petrol is much cheaper than the UK and diesel is sometimes not great quality.Have the budget for running costs but wondered if its worth considering in this age/price bracket or should I just save more and buy newer?

Thanks for any help

You know what they say....... If you have to ask, then you can't afford it. Wink

Seriously, I'd suggest looking at a newer Disco3. There are quite a few folks on the disco3.co.uk site from SA and the car has a good following there. An old FFRR with high mileage can only spell trouble if you are on a limited budget (like most cars I suppose). Neutral The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Hi JMC
Thanks for the reply.

Have thought about a discovery but the differences in Year Model/mileage between a Disco 3 and a FFRR are slight in terms of what you pay, besides which the FFRR is just a better looking car!

I don't have a limited budget (well within reason) for general maintenance but I do have a limit that I would like to spend initially, moreover I was just trying to establish if these cars are OK provided you do the homework first.

Are the older models really that bad?

not at all, the car I am selling now is a 2005 with 91K on the clock and its running like a dream and has only required minor maintenance other than servicing.

The key is finding one thats been looked after well and has had regular use. cars that are not used much tend to go wrong IMO.

FFRR are quite rare out in CT, was there back in October, seemed to be quite a few sports though... Sheep Discovery 4 HSE
