2008 4.2ltr petrol, 58k miles lpg conversion

Hi all, new to this forum. I am out in the Mediterranean. I came across a 2008 4.2 petrol V8 with 58k miles on the clock. He's the second owner and had it for some 10yrs. Its a small island so mileage locally is usually low unless theyre doing trips in neighboring sicily.

The current owner is quite into camping and some light offroading and he seems like he took care of it. He also did the lpg conversion to it with the recent one being last year.

Drove it for about 30min. Due to lpg tank the compressor is in the boot so its a little annoying when its on, is there options for this? What is reliability like at this sort of mileage?
I need it as a secondary car for 1200km round trips i do about 5 times a year looking to own it for another 35k miles or so.
What should I be checking on this? Brand of lpg conversion (MPI), model?
He's running 265/60/R20
He had some issue with the key starting so he devised an external switch to reset the system before turning on the key. If you remove the key it wont turn on before you use this external switch.
Any tips appreciated. I was initially after an LC before I came across this but its v8 engine and looks made me stop and consider it.

The issue is whether you can get the lpg for your trip. Personally I think that you’d be just as fine getting a diesel for the long runs and have no worries about fuel.

The whole reset to start thing sounds a bit odd too. LPG should be a seamless install …. And this switch method means something is wrong and rather than fixing it , it has been worked around. I’d look else where.

Reality is that if it’s crushing long miles, a diesel would be better, and even things like 7 series BMWs can be had for similar prices which are absolute miles munchers and arguably comfier and would push towards 50mpg on a run. V8 or else ...

I have a 2008 4.2sc which I bought second hand 10 years ago. After a few months had lpg installed and have used it for 72,000 miles locally and around Europe. It works very well but you must use unleaded fairly regularly as well as I may have screwed up my main injectors. When cold outside the car vibrates badly until heat gets into engine. Now it’s warmer it’s better but still noticeable. My Indy will be having a look at them soon. Once they are fixed I will be using lpg around town an unleaded on faster roads. The fact that the car starts on unleaded is not enough to keep the injectors in good condition Current:

Got to disagree with your diagnosis.

I have lived in Portugal the past 5 years I reckon I have put 5 tanks of petrol through the engine in my lpg 4.2sc in total in that time, I do about 10k miles per annum.

It runs fault free, starts on petrol and on to gas within a couple of hundred yards apart from winter when temp is down. I have 4ms of petrol addition when above 2900rpm.

King ecu
Palladio reducer
Magic jet injectors
Petrol fuel return fitted.

Lpg converted once I bought it in 2013

Is your lpg conversion also an MPI?

Have driven LPG nearly all my life. I'm Dutch and in Holland LPG was very normal in all kind of cars. Living in France driving LPG, no problem with finding LPG stations. Normally a LPG car starts on petrol and when warm switches automaticaly to LPG. Any LPG installation has normally te be checked by the authorities, so it's mentioned on the V5. If not mentioned on the V5 you'll might have a hard time getting it trough the local MOT.

The switching story you mention is not normal, except when an installation is an old one, meaning at least 15 years old.

Yes there is a little humming sound from the back, that will disapear when the pump is well installed with rubber rings and well packed with soundproof material. Standard procedure.

My fatty is driving on LPG since 6 moths after new delivery in 2007, has done 125000 miles and I do a tank of fuel every now and then because she always starts on fuel and when I'm driving high up in the mountains (just me thinking she needs it Wink Good luck with your purchase

Hi Dingg1 am only going by what my specialist has told me. As I said it ‘may’ be because I’ve run it on lpg almost exclusively except for start-up for 10 years. Until we get the injectors out it’s only guess work as an extensive check over drew a blank. I’m using the bsg system I believe (may have the letters round the wrong way) I’ve also got the same make on an old SL500, which unlike the 4.2sc, doesn’t need valve saving fluid. Current:

Hi Swithins

Try running the petrol tank down to minimum and put some fuel injector cleaner through it, drive it like you stole it until tank almost empty.

Also investigate mass air flow meter as possible suspect..
