Would be great if there was a dipstick tube already fitted and blanked off by the manufacturer that you could utilise! Not sure if there is such a facility or option to install one from scratch but it would certainly solve the problem.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but does anyone have a link to the manual to remove the oil pan please? Have to change the sensor on a friends car. Thanks |

How do you get to open the workshop manual like that, in chapters? I just get a huge pdf with a gazillion pages, and no index. |

I wonder if this is a DIY job/project. I have a feeling that my tdv6 will need doing at some point. Despite advancing years I like ro do as much as I can myself. This looks like a big job but really a series of smaller jobs: Part strip suspension, remove half shafts, remove diff, remove sump. Has anyone done it themselves or am I being over ambitious? |

Agree 100% Pete. Just concerned that I'll be left with a permanent Amber light and maybe a message. Everyone has their own views on it but I would much rather have a dipstick. I don't know about the V8 but the V6 vacuum tube starts at the front of the engine and winds it's way along and down to the back of the sump. Not very clear to see the level by the time the strimmer wire comes out. Tried the guitar string as well with same result. 🎸. Resorting now to gathering all the tools and pullers to do the job. That will ensure that I never have to do it. |

Didn't realise you got a fault showing if the sensor failed...

Having had the oil level sensor replaced on my V8 L405 I can confirm that it is no small job. I was given 2 options, drop front subframe and diff etc to access sump for removal or engine out (if you dont want to be bothered with the risk of stripping out bolts when dropping the subframe). Came in at around £1600 but warranty covered a big chunk of that. _______________________________________________
