Scotland 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Fuji White

Watched Sam's Motor & Machine the other day and got me wondering as my subwoofer, although working is really dull at low volumes and not that great at high volume either on MY 2012 Logic 7 HD system and I was considering replacing with a bass box, but would prefer to retain the boot space.

So pulled it out and covered the tinny plastically panels with sound deadener, put it in, it's still fairly quiet and almost not there at low volumes, at higher volumes sounds better, can tell some difference but still not rattling the windows. Can't believe how cheap this unit feels, it's really poor quality housing.

Will have to go away and have a think about that because replacing the subwoofer, shell, apeakers and amps is quite pricy and not simply plug & play. But I may just give it a go.

In Phase 6" XTs are £80 each, the shell around £40, the amp another £70, speaker rings another £10, that's £210 ish, a bit steep.

Anybody got any other recommendations, do you think just the amp replacement, keeping the current speaker just to drive it a bit harder would work ?

I recently acquired a 2012 Range Rover with a Logic 7 HD system... I've not been impressed with the audio quality or subwoofer... so after reading this thread, it feels good to know that it's not just me.

I’m also with you about the sound quality of the HD system. As you say, when you turn it up it’s great but a lower volumes there is almost a tinny sound.
I have got round it because I use Spotify. You can fiddle with the equaliser settings in Spotify and improve it a lot. I also use a CarPlay unit and you can also fiddle with the equaliser on that when using the aux cable.
Now it sounds pretty good but the bass does buzz a bit so I might do the Sam thing with sound deadening material and maybe cut a hole in the carpet by the sub woofer.
I find it sounds better with bias towards the rear.
I think you either need to have a complete revamp ££££££ or work around it like I have. I’m surprised that it is so poor. I was really looking forward to using it having read all the hype about HD Logic

Hi, the main door speakers are 16.5 cm 2ohms, does anyone know what the midrange units in the doors are and the ones in the rear pillars ?

I'm going to change the bass & tweeters to Audison APK 165s as per Sams Motors, but there's no talk about the midrange units.

I did hear talk of changing the bass units to GAS PS3M62s but it appears these are EU only and not easy to get hold of, so if Audison are good enough for Sam, they're good enough for me.

Also, anyone upgraded these units at all, if so what to ? Fuji White / Jet 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

All of the speakers are 2 ohm. You'll want to find a decent 3" midrange for the f&r doors, center, and pillars. I went with a 2 ohm 3 way kit from CDT Audio to replace mine which included 6.5in, 3in, and a tweeter.

IMO - The biggest improvement you can make to the sound system is to swap out the midbass speakers front and rear. The rear pillars are the last thing I would upgrade.

Has anyone tried replacing the HD door speakers?
They are quite different from the standard ones.
What is required is a warmer bass sound over a greater range

Hello folks, I also had the same issue with the poor HK logis 7 standard system and I’ve replaced my stocks speakers to Focal, Audison and Hert speakers combo, plus deadened the doors. The sound quality has improved somewhat, but I would say it could still improve further.

The sub in the boot is indeed awful…

Anyone tried replacing the amps?
Would that bring something?

Cheers from Hungary

Link to the tutorial/writeup on replacing the door bass speakers with Focals: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic57819.html

I've never had a real issue with the sub tbh, it sounds pretty balanced to me.

I'm curious though and I have a calibrated mic and REW, so I'll do some tests and share (Sam's done similar in his videos, but it could be differences across the cars).

Hey, Did you also do the Mobridge amp swap and if so, how is it? Smile

This is how the Logic7 looks with the addition of the Focal ES165K2 in the door speakers.

The sub is turned to full (the difference is minimal tbh).

Blue trace is another vehicle which has a 12 speaker system with full DSP correction (also mostly Focal speakers, but with only some quite small sub's, 6inch drivers in a sub box).

The main thing which stands out to me is the lack of treble from 9k upwards, this could be due to my front door "mids" which are actually tweeters, being needing of replacement.

Bass certainly isn't earth shattering, but it's pretty rounded tbh.

One of the odd things is that this looks quite different to the results Sam got. Possibly because he put the mic vertical in the middle of the car (which I found odd tbh, most people take measurements in the drivers seat position, which is what I did).

It could also be affected by the fact I have a metal dog-rack in the boot, with a variety of stuff attached to it - I'm surprise this doesn't kill more of the bass tbh, but it doesn't seem to have affected it.

I've done no sound treatment in this car, it's totally as standard.

This is good info thanks, nevertheless an aftermarket amp which gives you full setting and adjustment options could help this picture i guess. For me both the bass and high have become better with the focals, but still the sound is not what I call good…

Totally agreed - hence my interest in the mobridge!

I think the DSP would really let us bring these cars alive!

I’ve 4 tweeters left over from my install in the other car, so a job for the weeekend might be to pull the door cards off and swap out the “mids” for them, see if it improves that top end at all.

I have some spare passive crossovers too, if needed. Might as well use them Smile
