High initial RPM

Hi Gents,

Had a little looksy using search, but couldn't find anything that had the same symptoms. Anyone here had anything similar?

ONLY when the car is cold, upon starting the car revs up to around 1800rpm for about 10-15 secs then settles down to the normal 500rpm. Only just started doing it, but has recently been serviced. The cold start valve may have something to do with it I guess, but not really sure how they work on this. Just thought I'd ask before I take to an Indy.

Btw it's a 2006 facelift 4.4 V8 petrol. (jag I assume).

Thanks in advance,

Phooey.

2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

Same car as the OP here, does the same thing. Never given it a second thought TBH, I've known other makes of car do the same and I just put it down to the engine being stone cold and needing that boost - bit like a choke!

Cool

Thanks for the replies gents, I figured because it had only just started doing it, it was either because of the cold or something was going wrong.

Sounds like nothing too serious. Wait until spring and see if it calms down!

My S/C does this every time I start it. It gives a fantasic "whooshing" sounds for about 30 seconds, and scares children and those of a nervous disposition! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
