Mine opens flat as well - when i look at that picture, it was catching on a pedal, it does go flat with the rack on if I don't have the pedal in the way |

Looking good. Don't forget that MaxxRaxx say you should use the support straps with more than 2 bikes. You can see that the leverage is pretty high and whilst I do not bother for the couple of miles to our local trail on any journey where you might come across serious bumps (especially at speed) it is best not to take the chance.
