At what point does it fail?

Ask the mods to just double check you have enough space?

Resize you photos to 640x, 800x or 1024x jpg files with 80% compression if you have a slow connection this will speed things up. In most situations you don't need any better than that for a forum photo. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember
