I just phoned my supplying dealer [no names on this yet] to book in the car for the FBH to be looked at. I was gobsmacked when the service receptionist told me that they reserve the right to charge a £57+VAT inspection charge should the problem be rejected as warranty work. Surely that is a conversation that would be had when they had seen the vehicle and were able to demonstrate why they could not accept warranty claim (maybe for an exhaust bent off road or similar).

I think you'll find if the car was new in September it will be covered. |

Oh I am 100% certain it'll be covered. It is just the principle of telling the owner of a brand new car to be prepared to pay. I know that all car companies need to make sure warranty is not abused but there is a right way and wrong way.

Maybe they're simply trying to protect themselves from having to cover the cost of work which is required because customer has damaged the car eg by misuse?

Ho exactly do you 'misuse' a car that is meant ot be designed to handle the worst weather and offroad conditions that can be thrown at it??

Had the same issue when my radiator let go. They called after I dropped it off to tell me that the 2 hour labour to get it out to inspect it would be chargeable if it wasn't the problem and the leak was down to damage from stone chip or similar and therefore not a warranty claim. Wasn't that bothered as I was 99% sure it was a split seam, but it wasn't a call I was expecting to get, and I made that perfectly clear to them during the call! |
