Hi Guys,

New owner of a 2004 4.4 Autobiography.

Yesterday decided to do two things to it, 1) refit the original instrument cluster with freshly repaired pixels, and 2) use the cable tie method described on these excellent forums to secure steering column in/out motor, managed to do both without a hitch, however from previously being faultless I now have 'air susp inactive' plus abs and traction lights. Prior to my messing, everything was OK. I have tried the lock-to-lock reset multiple times also, and taking car for a run and restarting.

First port of call was the battery, as on trying to restart the car yesterday in hope of clearing the message it suddenly died, what with cold temps outside and the fact it looked like the original battery, I today replaced with a 110AH bosch, so ruled out low voltage which I have read can cause these messages.

My only thought is that somehow I have managed to dislodge wiring under the dash doing the steering column fix (its pretty tight) possibly to steering angle sensor? which is causing these symptoms, could changing the instrument cluster cause this sort of behaviour?

Start you car and turn the steering wheel fully left then fully right then back to fully left

I would double check that all wires are properlly seated behind the cluster, im sure you can do that by removing just the dash top.

I have had both out in the past, but if it is because of a loose wire its more than likely behind the cluster than the column. Reformed

I've had my clocks out a few times for pixels and LEDs etc
And I've had the same,

But a "lock to lock" then A drive over 10mph did it for me.

Best thing to do is retrace your steps check clocks are pluged in correct
Then if ok remove battery for a good 30 mins.


If you have unplugged the steering señor that would stop the
Lock to lock reset working woulndnt it.

Hi guys,

Right checked wires on the instrument cluster, everything was OK, put in the interim cluster which I was using whilst other was repaired, and hey presto, no errors! tried the original a further time just to be sure and it seems that the repaired cluster is definitely the issue! The original clsuter worked fine before the repair! could it be that the repairer has damaged something inside? 2004 4.4 Autobiography - gone

Sounds very feasable. Who repaired the cluster for you? If it was a business I would talk to them and explain the issue. Reformed
